When Darlene and Kimbrell’s parents died, it was Darlene who took over the day to day care of the ranch. Kimbrell more or less used her sexuality to get what she wanted in life. Darlene had Finn, who didn't necessarily rock her world but their relationship was comfortable, even though she knew he wasn't exclusively hers. She didn't need that anyway, until the day she laid eyes on Dawson. A strong Cowboy in mind, body and spirit, Dawson was every bit a man unlike Finn, who was still boyish in ways. Dawson came back home with one objective and that was to get Darlene. Will it be easy? I dare say not.

Desire, passion, hatred, stubbornness, humor .... A Matter Among Men contains them all. Right from the beginning this book captured my attention. Not once was there a lull in the storyline. It progressed at the perfect rate…. Not too fast and not too slow. I connected deeply with Darlene's character. She acted like a hard as nails kind of woman while underneath, she was searching for love in all the wrong places. That is, until Jack Dawson showed up on her ranch. Instantly I could feel the chemistry between the two characters. His take charge attitude is one of his character strengths. He knows just when to take charge and when to let Darlene do the talking. His protectiveness was extremely endearing. I could also barely breathe through the animosity toward Finn and Stan. Finn was just using Darlene until something better came along but when confronted with the fact that Dawson wasn't going anywhere, he suddenly wanted her more. Too bad! Oh and let's not forget Kimbrell, who shows, sibling rivalry at it's finest, until even as you read more into the book and can understand where some of it comes from. The twists and turns you don't see coming make this book an AMAZING read. I highly recommend A Matter Among Men to anyone who wants an interesting, erotic and yes, I do mean erotic story of romance, betrayal and humor at just the appropriate time. Ms. Blaine did an astounding job writing this book. I really felt like I was a part of the story. She definitely made my list of favorite authors.
