Sweetbrier Academy is not only a brothel, but it is also a place where the women are required to learn social graces. They are taught proper etiquette, the intricacies of running a household as well as how to please a man. When one of the girls, Hope, goes into town to pick up a few things from the general store, she encounters the town's doctor, Dr. Jonathan Norris. Their reaction to each other is surprising. Each feels a certain spark and fire but are reluctant to start a relationship for fear of the town's reaction. But when a fire goes unquenched, it just continues to grow.

The author writes an engaging story about a different kind of lady of the evening. It is interesting that anyone would deem it important to teach the ladies anything other than how to bed a man. Opal Benedict runs the academy and has collected several of her ladies from the streets where they were homeless and forced to beg on the street for food and shelter. She took them in, taught them things and most importantly, she befriended them. Their friendship is unique and heartwarming. Most people never encounter the love and selflessness that is rampant among the Sweetbrier Academy women. I was completely captivated by the characters and the storyline. I fully intend to read the next installment the minute it is released.
