Poor Savanna Royce, it’s one thing to be familiar with the adage “be careful what you wish for, it just might come true,” it’s another matter entirely to find out about it firsthand. Unfortunately, as we see in Paige Tyler’s newest paranormal romance Modern Day Vampires: Vampire 101 Savanna learns that her youthful fascination with vampires should have stayed buried in her youth. What was a minor teenage fascination with Angel from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has her adult imagination picturing her dream man as tall, dark, handsome and possessing fangs. Her not so wise solution to finding this dream man - visiting a Goth bar – turns out to be not wise at all. Sounds pretty simple and harmless, that is until Savanna encounters real vampires: one who apparently wants to harm her and another one who fortunately ends up saving her.
While Savanna may not know what to make of Kaige Travers when they first meet, he clearly has her best interest at heart. He also turns out to be her savior in many ways different ways, being an example of what a “good” vampire can be. Modern Day Vampires is a well-written and entertaining book, a roller coaster ride of thrills and chills, extreme highs and very few lows. The reader is able to watch Savanna run through the gamut of emotions as she deals with Kaige, is he truly the man of her dreams, or even a real man at all? I love this author’s writing style; she has such a vivid imagination, inviting the readers into her world, initially mesmerizing us into complacently believing that this is a typical vampire tale when it is anything but that. Further reading shows a book filled with intrigue, mystery, adventure, and sensuous romance - everything a discerning reader needs to stay focused for hours of enjoyment. Ms. Tyler knows how to keep her readers on the edge of their seats till the very end of her book, which is the mark of a true storyteller. Pick up a copy of Modern Day Vampires you will not be disappointed.
