While I had not read the other books in the Courtland Chronicles, I found this short story easy to get into. I never felt like I had missed a big part of the storyline by not having read them. I found the friendship between Eric and Ally to be jovial as well as sensual. I think they found a good balance from which to springboard into a marriage. The author includes minor characters intelligently without taking from the main plot. When the reader reaches the ending, I have no doubt they will quickly be seeking out the next book in the series.
