A tale of a vampire’s motherly devotion challenged by the threat of falling in love with a human being.
Deep in Shaman’s Forest, the vampire Valkyrie awakens to find her dhampir son, Anthony, ill with a fever. The sorceress says Anthony must have his father’s blood before the next full moon or else he will die. Valkyrie journeys with Anthony into the city to find a man she has not seen in 15 years. But will Anthony’s fascination with human life and Valkyrie’s need to feed on living blood tear them apart before Anthony’s father can be found?
The premise behind this book was good but I felt that it fell flat. The characters were not fully developed and the story was not well rounded. Unfortunately, I figured out the climax long before the author revealed it and the ending was just as transparent. There was a lot of unrealized potential in this story but it never live up to it. I struggled to get through the end of book and was neither surprised nor fulfilled. The character of Bill was just odd and, again, flat. He and the other peripheral characters only reacted to Valkyrie as if that was their only purpose. There were no thoughts revealed other than Valkyrie’s and Anthony only in relation to Valkyrie. The other characters disappeared completely when Valkyrie was not with them. Very disappointing book.
