Nina Randall needs a change. Her career as an ad exec is in a shambles and she has no personal life to speak of. She has one last chance to prove herself—a soda pop commercial in a Western setting. The thought of rough, rugged cowboys positively beckons. Jon Carver, on the other hand, can’t wait to get the heck out of Dodge. The only reason he’s at the family ranch is to help his brother hold on to the Crooked C, and the year he promised to give in that pursuit is up. After all, he isn’t a cowboy anymore. But for Nina, he’s awfully convenient.
I, for one, love a good cowboy story. Ms. Thayn writes a good, funny story about the
most unlikely of couples at first blush. As the story develops, it becomes increasingly clear that for all that Jon Carver and Nina Randall appear to be polar opposites, they have an inordinate amount of things in common. As the push-pull of most hard-won relationships unfolded, I appreciated the indecision expressed by Jon in regards to becoming involved with a woman like Nina. All in all, the book proceeds at a good pace and has a nice, satisfying ending.
