For reasons unknown to Meagan Murphy, her father won’t allow her to date anyone in uniform. Through her volunteer efforts at the USO, she meets Ryan Cullen and throws caution to the wind.
Ryan only has a short time before his unit is shipped overseas, and they have to make the most of the time they have left together. Ryan deploys, but not before he puts a ring on her finger and asks her to wait.
Will he return and win her hand from her father, or are all those newscasts on the nightly radio about casualties in Ryan’s unit warning her to prepare herself for the worst?
Tender Return is a short but enticing read that addresses a subject that a lot of military families are going through today. Meaghan has found herself in love with Ryan only to have to let him go as he is to be deployed at any moment. She can't know when or to where. On top of missing Ryan, she struggles to deal with the fact that she has to hide her romance from her parents. Her father has strictly forbidden his daughters to date any USO servicemen for reasons unbeknownst to her. Fear is her constant companion these days and she can't help but worry for Ryan. With all the reports of casualties over the radio, Meaghan holds out hope that they will be reunited once again. These are all such real emotions that spouses of those deployed have to deal with everyday. I thought it was refreshing that Ms. Simpson gave us both points of view in this story by showing the reader just how much fear Ryan has for what must be done. The one thing helping him to make it through is knowing that Meaghan is waiting for him.
I found Tender Return to be a sweet yet spicy read that tugged at my heartstrings and allowed me to see through the eyes of a woman waiting for her lover to come home. Ms. Simpson has written a touching love story with a deep and powerful setting that I believe a lot of readers will be able to relate to. I felt like I wanted to know the characters in more depth and I would love to see this book made into a full length novel. Tender Return has a message that needs to be told and I am pleased to say that today is the day this message is told. If you are looking for a quick read with filled with meaning and emotion as well as a sensual romance, then look no further, Tender Return is a book you don't want to miss.
