The future of Charlotte Harris's finishing school is in jeopardy when a charming Spaniard -- world-famous magician Diego Montalvo -- arrives to turn the bordering estate into a scandalous pleasure garden. Valiantly ignoring his wicked flirtations, outspoken Lucinda Seton vows to derail his plans and save the school, unaware that Diego's true mission is to spirit the long-lost heiress away to Spain for a handsome reward! But before long Diego's heart is playing tricks on him, and Lucy is falling under the illusionist's spell. How can the Master of Mystery go through with his devilish scheme when all he wants is to make the lovely heiress his own?
This is an absolutely fabulous read. From the very beginning I was thinking “lush and delectable!”
Lucy (Lucinda) is an intelligent and passionate young lady raised with an army regiment by her adoptive “Papa.” She was sent to Ms. Harris’ school for proper training but she struggles to stay within the proprieties of an English Lady. She is hurt and wary after her long time friend and young crush calls her a hoyden and goes off to seek a “proper wife”.
Diego Montalvo may be my new favorite hero! He is dark and handsome and a mesmerizing magician! What’s not to love? What isn’t known by the public is that he is a Spanish Count trying to regain his family’s estate. Although he is masquerading behind a pretended purpose in order to find Lucy and return her to her Spanish Grandfather, he is truly an honorable man trying to do the right thing – as he perceives it.
Diego has to discover if Lucy is the true granddaughter and then figure out how to get her back to Spain so that he can get his reward. Oh – of course he is supposed to return her untouched so that her grandfather can make her a wonderful marriage match. It sounded easy enough until he starts to fall under the spell of her passionate nature! How can he deceive her and return her to wed some other man when he wants her for himself? But how can he give up his live long dream to regain his family estate? And doesn’t she deserve to be returned to a loving grandfather and become a cosseted heiress?
Although the plot may not be brand new it is intertwined beautifully with these two delightful characters to make it fresh and fun. There are some surprises revealed and truths to be discerned in the end! This is a story you love as you read it and are sorry when it ends!
Also this book sets out some developing conflict between Ms. Harris and Cousin Michael that leads to the final book of the series! Now I have to get Wed Him Before You Bed Him to read their story!
