Some angels do not suffer their children to live. Grace Carrington has never been normal – she’s a Nephilim, half human and half angel. The same psychic powers that make her a freak also make her a target, and she’s on the run from an exploitive mother and two enemy beings whose powers far exceed her own.
This is an absolutely brilliant book. I truly enjoyed every minute of it. The creative storyline, about the half-blood uniquely talented children of angels and humans on the run from enemies who want them dead, is riveting from the very first page. I don’t want to give any more details away than absolutely necessary, because this is definitely a book that you’ll likely enjoy more if you don’t know too much about the plot before reading it. That being said, I found the characters to be very real and engaging, the story well-planned and exciting, and the world creative enough to keep you deeply engrossed in everything that happens.
If you enjoy paranormal books set in the modern world, then I’d strongly recommend adding this to your reading list. Rather than falling back on the standard fare of vampires, werewolves, or ghosts, here you find the far rarer, and more daring, use of angels, as well as their children with humans. Then, in an even more daring move, the angels aren’t necessarily good, and can in fact be downright evil. If the idea had been executed badly, the book would have certainly been a failure. As it is though, through vivid storytelling, you end up with one of the most creative and engaging paranormal books that I’ve ever read.
Featuring all the traits necessary in a great paranormal fantasy, including special abilities, great enemies, well-developed characters and plot, and talented writing, there’s only one thought that ran through my mind after finishing it, besides how brilliant it was. I really hope this book becomes part of a series. There’s so much to this amazing story that could still be explored, if the author chose to do so.
