Review - Hunters of the Nile

Every era has its hunters...and its prey.

Callie never thought her life could get any weirder or more frightening than when she's kidnapped and thrust the role of fox in a deadly hound hunt. A subsequent fall tumbles her through time and into the arms of an Egyptian warrior.

At first convinced she's landed among re-enactors, Callie discovers some things are exactly what they seem. A captive, Callie finds out reality holds passion, romance and more surprises than she ever imagined.

There were things I liked about Hunters of the Nile – the main one being that when the heroine tumbled back in time she didn’t automatically understand ancient Egyptian, Callie’s sense of humor and her ability to keep calm when things go out of control. There was one thing I didn’t like – there wasn’t enough shown of the hero for the reader to get to know him, which makes him a very flat character. Ms. Moonwater showed us more of one of Callie’s tormentors than she did of her hero.

Is there more than magic in the air?

Cassie and Harold have worked together for a long time. Hearing about a great opportunity to do a nude magic show, Harold is all for it but knows that Cassie will need to be too.

Cassie has kept her feelings to herself for so long, now she finally sees her chance to let him know how she really feels but will she regret it or will it be Pure Magic?

Cassie finds herself giving in to Harold when an opportunity comes up to perform a nude magic show. Although it is against everything in Cassie, she agrees to do the show because of Harold. Cassie has never been the kind of person to reach outside of her comfort zone and do something so against her character. Harold has also been attracted to Cassie so the offer to do the magic show nude just seems natural to them both.

I liked that Cassie was able to come out of her comfort zone to show Harold how much she had been in love with him. They made a good couple together because they had known each other for so long. It was very evident from the beginning of Pure Magic that the sparks were flying. I enjoyed the chemistry Cassie and Harold shared and that there was a secret that Harold was not telling Cassie.

Although I don't read much of this type of genre, I found the characters and sexual tension to be believable and entertaining. I would have liked to learn more about the characters and about the secret Harold was keeping. I think Pure Magic would have been an outstanding read if the book had been longer. I enjoyed the ending and wished it had gone into more detail.

If you are into magic and an erotic quick read then Pure Magic is the book for you. I have never read any of Anne Sorgeson's books before reading Pure Magic but I look forward to reading her future books.

Parties can be such educational experiences and for serious journalist Nina Blackington her first party at the Hottie Mansion turns out to be very educational and so much more than just a story.

Nina was a pent up socialite who wanted people to take her seriously so when she is offered a story by her boss to interview the famous owner of the Hottie Mansion, she accepted. As she entered the mansion, she was certain this would be no ordinary interview. Everybody was barely clothed if not totally naked. She is approached by Vince, a fellow journalist who works for Hottie Magazine. As their relationship gets more involved and some of her fantasies are fulfilled, she realizes she has been deceived. When she finds out just who has betrayed her, who will have hell to pay? Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

I felt a kinship to Nina's character. She was a very smart journalist and woman who found herself in a very different atmosphere than she was used to. Vince was a gorgeous man who was used to getting any woman he wanted without his conscience bothering him, that is until he met Nina. As their relationship grew, I found myself becoming more attached to the characters and actually caring about their well being. Together they were a highly erotic couple in a sexually charged atmosphere. To me, it seemed like this book was based solely on sex but as I continued to read the story, I found the book to focus more on the relationship than the actual sex. I enjoyed understanding the emotional bonds that both Nina and Vince had toward each other.

In my opinion, Jillian Hallowell did and outstanding writing job on Lace, Lust and Liars. I enjoyed the twists and turns along the way and found the plot to be thrilling and intriguing. Lace, Lust and Lies included romance, sex, action and a great plot, everything I look for in a exciting story. If you are looking for a highly erotic read blended with action and romance, then this is the book for you.

Peyton Michaels is a writer. She is going to be doing an article on the Bear Claws, a top hot shot team. They are wildland firefighters who put their life on the line every time they go in. Peyton is searching for a reason why people do this type of work. Her husband was a police officer who was killed in the line of duty. He had enjoyed his work immensely and seemed to feed off the high derived from it. Peyton is determined to write a good story and get a few answers along the way.

Gabe Cooper is the best hot shot around. He’s been doing it for awhile so his age is starting to show a bit. He feels the aches and pains longer than he used to. He is also in no mood to put up with a nosy reporter who is probably just going to twist his words and make him look dumb. Considering she is only here for a short time, he plans to put up with her long enough for her to get her story and get out of his life.

Ms. Fredrick writes a story with such precise detail that the reader feels like they have received a small course in firefighting. The procedures that are involved in containing and fighting wild fires are well-researched and thoroughly described. The love-hate relationship that develops between the two main characters of Peyton and Gabe is timed perfectly. There is ample time for the couple to get to know one another and build up into the realization of their feelings that have far surpassed their expectations. Add in possible arson and loss of life and you have a suspense-filled, power-packed story that is a fantastic way to spend the weekend. I had not read this author’s work before, and was immensely glad I did.

Patty James is having a bad day. She's just lost her job, and to make matters worse, she's knocked on her butt by a couple of ill mannered teens while on her way home from the office. As she struggles to deal with her scattered possessions, torn hose and broken high heel, who should stop to help her but a man whose looks would rival the Greek gods.

Dionysus, God of Wine and Revelry, is having a field day on Earth. There's nothing he can't have and nothing he enjoys more than wearing himself out with endless days and nights of debauchery. He never sleeps with the same woman twice, rarely stays in the same city more than a few days, and has no desire to change his lifestyle. So why is he suddenly having a hard time keeping one little mortal female from invading his every waking thought?

This story was a delightful little romp through every women’s daydream. We’ve all had those moments were we feel life just can’t get any worse and you want a prince to come and rescue you. And if you are going to dream, why not dream big? And they don’t come much bigger then the Greek God of Debauchery...no pun intended.

The only major failing of this book is author’s lack of research into basic Greek Mythology. Greek and Roman names are mixed, and while they are the same Gods and Goddesses, it is generally wise to keep with only one set of names. Furthermore, the genealogy seemed to have been decided at random. Aurora (Eos in Greek) is not Dionysus’s mother in any account; and his brother Ira – as far as I can find – is a Latinized version the Lyssa (also sometime translated as Rabies), the Goddess of Madness, not wrath.

I did find myself wishing it was longer, but the romance was wonderfully whirlwind and the sex sizzled. Overall I would recommend it to someone in need of a quick read.

After two years, the pain he feels is as fresh as if it happened yesterday. Charles hears Jill's voice giving him encouragement to go on and he meets Emma. Can he have a future with someone other than Jill?

I actually felt for a moment that I was Charles. I felt the sharp pain that he felt and almost had to catch my breath. Charles' character was a strong, devoted man who felt defeated and broken. I was in awe of Emma's character, she was carefree and kind but could relate to Charles in a very special way that no one else could. Their chemistry was amazing. The events that came from the meeting of Charles and Emma really made this book.

I loved the topic of this book and know that the reader will find something in Touched by an Angel that will touch their lives in one way or another. Sharon Donovan did an outstanding job with the use of imagery. I felt like I was right there feeling exactly what Charles and Emma felt. I highly recommend this book to those who love the second chance at romance books that I do. More books like Touched by an Angel by Sharon Donovan will be an automatic add to my to be read list. Pick up this book, I can promise you that you will not be disappointed.

Gemma Talbot is like every woman I know. From time to time she questions her judgement and her insecurities. She is forced to take a good hard look at herself and her passions when she meets Emilio, a dreamy latin superstar. Emilio is tired of the superstar lifestyle and not knowing who cares about him just for himself or for his fame. When he meets Gemma, he finds passion and friendship in the quirky, sexy, passionate woman he comes to know.

Mucho Caliente is one of the most well written book that I have ever read. The reader is pulled into the story and you just can't help but laugh at most of the situtations that come about in the book. The scene where Gemma is swimming to the boat has got to be one of my favorites. The description that went into Mucho Caliente was breathtaking. I felt like I was there with Gemma and her friends experiencing the surroundings and the actions that the characters took. At times, Francesca Prescott represented the reader so well that I felt she could have been writing about me.

The passion and road to a relationship was steamy, sensual and downright funny. The characters were intoxicating, compelling and genuine.

Francesca Prescott has gone above and beyond what I expected this book to be. I was drawn in as a reader and could not put the book down. I would highly recommend this book to ANY reader. If you enjoy humorous, sensual, informative, well written books, this is the book for you. I urge you to pick up this book, you will not be disappointed. Because of Mucho Caliente, Ms. Prescott has just found herself a lifetime fan. I am honored to give this book a YOU GOTTA READ rating as it is just simply amazing!

Can the devil and the angel be one and the same?

Selean was dying from a form of Cancer so she commits suicide. As she is dying and angel arrives to take her away.

Only this angel turns out to be Raggar Vaul, a vampire that seems inclined to torture her. Then he claimed her as his own since he saved her life. He loves her with an unexpected passion that she is happy to enjoy, still she is his prisoner.

While adjusting to living in his castle, he never warns her therefore she is unprepared for the encounters with an evil that is determined to kill her when it attacks.

Will she survive or will the evil take over all?

The summary for Lust of a Vampire was somewhat misleading in my opinion. Raggar takes Selean and claims her as his own not because he saved her life but because he has been watching her, wanting her as his mate. I like Ms. Renn's style of writing but her characters fall a little flat. They both have very contridictory traits. For example, she mentions Selean's strength of character and Selean demonstrates great tenacity in her quest to escape Raggar, yet in the very beginning she is commiting suicide. Ragger is supposed to be an unresistable, dominating, pillar of sexuality yet he sometimes loses that feeling of control and dominace. The story itself is rather interesting and kept my interest with a few fumbles along the way. The love scenes were rather steamy but could have used a little more detail and it would have been nice to get more into the character's heads. While not a book I would highly recommend, I would say if vampires are your thing you might enjoy it.

Sophia Whitfield has lost her parents, most of her home and most of the slaves. The Civil War is the cause of her great loss, in her opinion. The love of her life, Jesse Grantham, walked out of her life to fight for the South. Her great childhood friend, Gavin Langdale, chose to go and fight for the North. She has been promised to Jesse since birth so being his wife is what she has planned her whole life for. She waits week after week for news of Jesse and when he might come home and help her rebuild her broken life.

Gavin Langdale walks a very long way after her leaves the war to bring devastating news to his friend, Sophia. The news will likely knock her into a dark abyss that she may never emerge from. He battles with the decision long after he makes contact with Sophia because he also battles with the emotions that have plagued him his whole life. He wants Sophia to love him the way she loves Jesse. He wants Sophia to be his not Jesse's. Gavin has a secret that could force Sophia to hate him for the rest of her life.

The author pens a story that is unlike any other. The characters are introduced as childhood friends who become adults with very complicated life experiences to deal with. The story takes place right after the Civil War when tensions run high on both sides. Emotions are tenuous at best and even more so when old relationships become new relationships. I was torn during the reunion scenes and breathless during the chase scenes. I loved all the substories and the minor characters that were such an integral part of the author's vision. Land of Falling Stars makes you believe in the possibility of retribution and the hope of finding your brass ring in the last place you look.

Who will win the battle and who is going to win the war?
When Kathy Adams finds herself alone in a deserted building during a hurricane, the last thing she expects is to run into a stranger in the dark. He turns out to be a Peruvian billionaire who takes one look at her in the glare of his flashlight, and decides to add her to his collection of pretty toys. He offers her a dream job on his private island in the Caribbean, and their seduction dance begins.
He is handsome, arrogant, and thinks that every woman has a price. And she's a girl who won't be bought. She wants the real thing—she wants love. Paul Andros doesn't know the meaning of the word.

Auctioned Bride is one of those hard to classify books. There were elements I loved about it and others I found too cliché. Paul Andros is not shown in enough depth to get to know him which makes his motivations seem very superficial. This could be because most of the book is written from Kathy Adam’s Point of View. However, there were enough times seeing through Paul’s eyes that the reader should have had more insight into him. Kathy is too caught up on Paul’s money and power to allow herself to learn who the man is. Her revelation that she is in love is surprising not only to the character but the reader as well. The contrast between the world Kathy is from and Paul is from is well drawn and striking. Still, it had moments that were humorous and touching.

When a body is found drained of blood in a distant province, the ruler of Naj sends his brother Insu ha Dar to investigate. In Dak moon, Dar discovers a city plagued by a mysterious illness and gripped with fear of dangerous night creatures. The Insu ha's ability to tell if a person is lying should make it easy for Dar to discover the killer, but he finds it isn't. With his companion, a retired assassin named Waulo, and the help of the Guard Master Joran, Dar searches for the truth. A truth that the Magistrate Insu ha Shoki doesn't want him to find.

I am a big fan of the murder mystery genre, especially when well mixed with the paranormal, but I found this book left me wanting. It gets off to a slow start, throwing out names and terms that mean little to the reader and have little to no context. The setting takes heavily from ancient China or Japan, which the unsubtle renaming of titles, places, and customs does little to disguise. These two problems combine, often giving the reader an unfamiliar word without an accompanying description, and leaving them to guess at what everyday items are supposed to be.

The story improves greatly once the plot gets underway, with a nice pace, interesting characters, and even a bit of humor in places. However, the paranormal aspect is downplayed and the murder is not overly mysterious. While I did not guess the end result exactly, I was not particularly surprised by the parts I mis-guessed either. I believe the story’s greatest short coming is the choice of the omnipotent narrator; which tends to drain the mystery from the story by following all the main characters, good and evil. Overall is it a good rainy day book; entertaining, but easily set aside when need be.

What can bring a strong career Marine to his knees?

Daniel Deveraux is a man of action. He doesn't allow his life to be complicated by anything or anyone. He left the Marines after deciding that the don't-ask-don't-tell policy was more than he could abide. He returned home in search of a simple life, one devoid of the insanity he'd endured in Iraq. Love for him was a distant dream.

Brandon Matthews is an exceptional man, both in body and in mind. His magnetic personality and exceptional good looks were an impenetrable wall behind which this damaged man safely hid. His journey found him working days as a carpenter, and nights as "eye candy" at a local gay bar.

The two men find themselves on a tumultuous journey of emotional and sexual revelation that threatens to destroy them both. The intense sexual relationship binds them in a way neither one expects.

The question remains—will the deep sexual bond bring the two men together in a deep and enduring love? Or will it destroy them?

Dangerous Obsession presents the reader with two emotionally scarred men. In different ways Daniel and Brandon are both fighting demons from their past; one dealing with anger issues and the other with low self esteem. Their journey is both dark and humorous. The characters have strengths and weaknesses, fears and hopes – making them fully rounded characters that a reader will enjoy getting to know.

Kimbrell is a woman who has gotten through life lying on her back to get what she needs. She makes no secret of it and it is very apparent with all the locals where her talents lie. She is a sassy, brassy woman who knows what she wants and how to get it. I admired her sense of humor and deep down, there lie a woman who was just afraid of getting hurt. The Carlisle brothers all had something that Kimbrell needed and I loved their passion, loyalty and protectiveness toward Kimbrell. It was heartwarming to see the lengths they would go to to make sure that "their" girl did not hurt in any way. The sex between Kimbrell, Rex, Dallas and Corbin was just flat out hot and intense! I was completely immersed in the story line and the passion was just out of this world.

A Matter Among Four is the sequel to A Matter Among Men. This is the first time that I have ever read a Menage book and I cannot believe what I have been missing. Destiny Blaine has introduced me to a whole new genre and has set the bar high for any future books that I may read from this particular genre. It was an outstanding, hot read that I could not put down. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves hot hunky cowboys, and a great story line. If you are looking for a few hours of fun, are a lover of Regency romances and enjoy a rousing laugh or three and don’t mind sitting down with a good book then Steeplechase by Blair Bancroft is the book for you. It is clearly evident by the first few paragraphs that while Harlan Dawny, Richard Ainsworth and Adrian Chumsley might be the best of friends, they are certainly not the best or in this instance the soberest of influences upon each other. This proves to be all too true when Lord Ainsworth suggests that Harlan, also Viscount Davenham should marry his youngest sister Sally as a way of inheriting his Aunt Portia’s fortune which is destined to go to a home for cats if he does not find a suitable wife. They all agree that Sally would be perfect: young, biddable and unlikely to interfere with Harlan’s lifestyle. Rather than sobriety bringing clarity the next morning, our three “wits” convince each other to go forward with their plan. Needless to say, they did not “plan” on Sally.

While she does agree to the wedding, Sally exercises her right to change her mind, and biddable she is not. The hilarity ensues between the newlywed couple from day one as they try to adjust to each other while maintaining a marriage in name only due to Sally’s youth. The chance to set up her own house is an irresistible lure to a young lady in her position, and she leaps at it gleefully, while Harlan is trying his best to avoid the temptation of being in her company overly much as his fondness for her increases.

Ms. Bancroft has a gift for penning witty, often biting repartee between her characters, and this definitely holds her readers attention. The secondary characters are just as developed as Harlan and Sally, supported by a separate subplot that highlights their charm and personality. Her devotion to detail, meticulously illustrating each aspect of her characters from their hair styles, clothing, accents and demeanor helps to set the scene, keeping the reader immersed in Regency England. Steeplechase is a thoroughly enjoyable book, one I recommend!

I read this story not necessarily expecting a mixture of suspense and mystery. I was pleasantly surprised at what the author had in store. The relationship between the main characters was not only believable but riveting. I liked that the author wrote the scenes from several points of view so the reader is not left to their own conclusion vis a vis others' perceptions. The twists and turns of the plot keep you guessing. A couple of times I thought I had it figured out only to find out I was wrong. The author writes a delightful love story of long-denied love that culminates in an mixture of mystery and devotion rarely seen. Simply an amazing book.

Cindy K. Green was able to give us human emotion, love, lust, and adventure in a very well written novella. It's hard to imagine that in 28 very short pages The Heart Never Lies had it all. Unlike some novellas, this did not leave me wondering. Though had the book been extended from the front end to show interaction between hero and heroine, I would not have been upset.

The characters in The Heart Never Lies were well written and left you feeling as you could relate to their feelings and dreams.

She enjoys the solititude and quiet afforded her by being surrounded by the forest and all the accompanying fauna. Her ex-husband, Paul Grier, makes her life miserable with his occasional unannounced drunken visits. She wonders what she ever saw in him. He is so unstable she worries he will soon be a threat to her personally. Taylor is an author by profession and is currently working on an article about endangered species. Little does she know how close to home that article would hit.

Dar angered the gods and has been relegated to a life of being human at night and a wolf during the day. Being a shape-shifter, he roams the earth in search of his soulmate. She is the only remnant of his former life that he still has memory of. Dar cannot recall why he made the gods angry, but he is grateful he still has the ability to sense her. He leads his pack of fellow wolves to where her heart beats and calls to him in hopes they will be able to connect despite his changed state of being.

After reading this book, I had to sit back and ponder a love so strong that it would reach across not only time and space but also species. When Taylor is so drawn to the wolf who is injured in the snow and can hear him in her mind, I had an "ah" moment. Only a love so deep could call to one's soul despite their differences in appearance. The way he loves her and cares for her in spite of his limitations is what every woman dreams of. Their lovemaking was tender and also animalistic. The way the author describes his exploration of her body and her desire to please him equally was exquisite. I felt happiness, sadness and a deep emotional quenching upon completion of the book. I loved everything about this story and hope to read more from this fantastic author in the future.

Calista Kingston is a famous singer. Dane Leven is the exact opposite of what Calista has always wanted in her life. He is dangerous, dark and moody. But life being what it is, he is exactly what she needs to survive her fan turned stalker. Calista's brother, Connor, even arranges it so Dane is the person hired to protect his twin sister. Their attraction escalates after being forced under one roof and soon there is nowhere left to go but into each other's arms. What Calista doesn't know and Dane is too afraid to tell her is there is something that could shatter their relationship and leave them irreparably broken.

Upon reading the description of this book, I couldn't wait to read it. I was immediately drawn into Calista's world of touring, recording and rubbing elbows with celebrities, etc. I was also shown a world that all too easily lends itself to the minds of some people that can take an inocuous situation and skew it into something sordid and inappropriate. This is how her stalker views her. Merely meeting with someone at a party makes her a whore in his eyes. He wants her and hates her at the same time. I was very intrigued by the special twin connection between Calista and Connor. However, after the intial few passages regarding her feeling Connor's being shot and physically sporting a bruise in the area he was shot, there was hardly any mention of Connor again. The connection just petered out. I had hoped that the author would play upon that twin connection especially when the relationship between Dane and Calista heated up setting up a showdown of sorts between her brother and her lover. The groundwork was laid but never built upon. The story does take the reader down a series of dead ends and keep you guessing as to the identity of the stalker, nonetheless, and makes for a good read. The ending ties up several loose ends and makes you feel good about an unlikely ending between two people from such opposite spectrums of the world. I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading her work in the future.

Jestine “Jess” Darnell is a missionary roaming the galaxy attempting to recruit others. When her ship begins to self-destruct, she is offered a hand by a ship called The Destiny. She becomes acquainted with the crew and ends up spending quite a bit of time on their ship. As time goes on, she becomes close to the second-in-command, Kerry Marchant. Kerry and Jess fall in love and plan to be together forever. Upon arrival in Phidia, they are attacked by Ayando, an evil creature determined to cause pain and havoc. Kerry’s life is spared because Jess throws her body in the way of the shot meant to kill Kerry. After being presented with Jess’ body, Kerry and the rest of the crew of The Destiny dispose of her body in a most fitting way. Jess, however, is still very much alive unbeknownst to anyone. She awakes to find The Destiny has gone and left her behind. She employs a man named Dahll to take her on his ship in hopes of finding the love of her life. The story continues with Jess’ journey to locate The Destiny and reunite with Kerry in a true love meant to last forever.

I began the story with much anticipation of a good romance story in outer space. While it might be enjoyed by science fiction fans, it was sorely lacking for me. The different planets and their inhabitants and customs took far too much away from the central theme. There was much ado about the different traditions and vegetation indigenous thereto. I found it very distracting and immaterial to the heart of the story; i.e., the search for a lost love. While I understand that the thrust of the story changes midway, I found it difficult to make the transition from one love to another; especially when the transition comes from out of left field. Jess is searching for Kerry for the entire book. But at the end, she decides that she is really in love with Dahll. She has only expressed brother-sister type feelings for Dahll. Then, all of a sudden, she is in love with him? I respect the author’s obvious endeavor to provide a love story with a twist but this is not a story I particularly cared for.

This book is trio of short stories with one central character running through each of them. Ana is a career woman who likes her life just the way it is. She calls the shots and makes no apologies for it. Yet, there is a part of her that likes to fantasize about how her life could be different if only for a little while.

In the first short story, Siempre Mia, the reader is introduced to Ana and her musician boy toy, Miguel. Their relationship is one of convenience as afar as Ana is concerned. She can play with him when he is in town for the weekend, have a few laughs and then move on. Miguel would prefer a more permanent relationship but will gladly settle for whatever Ana is willing to give.

The second short story, Business With Pleasure, showcases Ana in the corporate side of her life. She is efficient and professional but has no problem fraternizing with a business associate when the opportunity presents itself. Jonathan is hoping to land a great business deal with Ana’s company by wooing her boss. Little does Jonathan know that his wooing of Ana could be just as satisfying if only in a more physical way.

The last short story, Games People Play, takes place as Ana spends time at home in Florida visiting her parents. Enjoying a carefree, much slower-paced life for a couple of weeks a year helps her recharge her batteries as it were. Darcy is a down-to-earth guy who is now a police officer in town. They met about five years ago and have had an annual fling every since. Ana likes the lack of pretense between them, and Darcy knows Ana is not a small town kind of girl. Darcy is willing to sample Ana’s charms for as long as she’ll let him.

Each of these stories is unique and very sexy. Ana’s relationship with each man is distinct and complex. The men know that Ana is not a woman who wants to settle down so they spend time with her when they can and don’t complain when it’s over. Ana uses her feminine charms to keep all three men coming back for more whenever the mood strikes her or the situation arises. The author does a tremendous job of giving the reader the right amount of background, emotion and plot to pull you in and not let you go. Reading the book, as I did, all in one fell swoop is exciting, sensual and immensely satisfying. The sex scenes are explicit but not garish; detailed but not raw. I fully intend to read this author’s work in the future. She is a must-buy in my book from now on.

Detective Samantha Colby has tried so hard to make a name for herself on the force. After a failed marriage, she is determined to catch the chief's eye and earn a promotion and thereby boost her flagging confidence. Dr. Dexter Hawkins appears to be a typical good-looking, Harley-Davidson riding playboy. He exudes sexiness and charm just by walking in a room. Samantha is bound and determined not to be drawn in by his warm smile and twinkling eyes. She's danced to that music before, and it got her nothing but heartache. Dexter is intrigued by Samantha and is determined to peel away the layers to get to the heart of the cool, calm and business-like lady detective.

The premise for this book held such promise, and it did deliver to a point. I think had the author been allowed to write a longer story, the characters' personalities could have been fleshed out more and helped the reader understand the why and how of their respective decisions. Since the story was relatively short, the romance felt rushed and incomplete. I understood the push-pull of the emotions but felt cheated when past experiences were glossed over and not explained more. Dexter's ex-wife and step-son make brief appearances but don't satisfactorily explain the ins and outs of their respective relationships. The reader has to make do with a few sentences.

Having said that, the suspense portion of the story and the growing list of murder suspects does make it very interesting. The author does use rarely used methods to draw the reader into assuming they know the identity of the murderer only to be shot down by exciting twists and turns. The unique plotlines lend a great drama to the book that is not often incorporated into a romance. I enjoyed the suspense and mystery portion of the book very much. I anticipate this author will write more books in this vein and continue to stump her fans.

Christa Bailey has planned and practiced for years to make the Olympic softball team. She plays on a team and consistently does well. She hopes that it will only be a matter of time before she is given the go-ahead nod by someone to take her position and represent the United States. She just needs to be patient. Lately, someone in the stands sits right behind home plate and cheers her on at every home game. She tries to shut him out and concentrate on her game but it becomes increasingly annoying and distracting. He's never approached her but if he does, what would she say? Sometimes he verges on going too far in his appreciation for her ability as a softball player. Is he really just an avid fan or is he really an obsessed fan? Christa just hopes he keeps his distance so she doesn't take her eyes off her goal.

Rayne Hutchinson is a member of the Emergency Response Team and is good friends with Christa's best friends, Teryl and Drew. He is a ladies' man and has had many relationships that almost never last longer than a few months. He is happy being single and is in no hurry to settle down. He likes playing the field. He has, of course, run into Christa at Teryl and Drew's home over the years. He thinks she is pretty and has always admired how she is so self-sufficient in everything she takes on. Lately, however, he begins to feel more of an attraction to her. When she tells him about her would-be stalker, not only does his professional protective side come to the forefront but so does his personal protective side. What is going on here?

I rode the roller coaster ride of Rayne and Christa and have never enjoyed being on the edge of my seat like this before. The author illustrates not only the scenery perfectly but also the personalities of the characters. While the reader isn't privy to the details of Christa's prior relationship, it is made very clear that she lacks confidence in herself because of it. The emotions that Christa kept trapped inside and the way she was forced to confront and deal with them were heart-wrenching. You cry for her, and you cheer her on at every little baby step that brings her back to some sense of normalcy when it comes to romantic relationships. Rayne is battling his own demons that stem from being abandoned by his father when he was a young boy. Along with falling for Christa, he realizes he needs to deal with his own problems before attempting anything with her. Christa's stalker adds a whole other dimension to the plot and leads the reader on a suspense-filled path that makes you constantly wonder what is just around the corner. I was so impressed by the depth of the story and how each different layer was carefully pulled together in the end. Truly one of the most remarkable stories I have read. Kudos to the Ms. Cross for a story well-told.

Little does she know how remaining in the crypt for much longer will change her life forever.

Lord Callum Broderick is on his way home after being gone to battle for the king. He is tired, dirty and the last thing he needs is to help a lost soul along the way. His fondest wish is to return safely to his home and be among his family. Well, best laid plans and all that, he has a major detour afoot.

The book entails time travel and how love reaches across the span of time and finds its one true love. The main characters are well-written. Jayne is a most delightful character. I found myself laughing and crying with her throughout the book. I appreciated her wit and humor in all the ridiculous situations in which she found herself. The character of Callum was a bit mysterious at first. It was difficult to read his feelings about Jayne but the reader will definitely warm up to him once the foundation is laid that reveals all of his traits and flaws. He is a loyal family man who needs a strong dose of reality in an unreal situation to make him realize what is most important of all. The author writes detailed accounts of the scenery, the clothing and even the vernacular. It was a quick and wonderful read, and I am very much looking forward to reading more from this author hopefully in the same vein. A stupendous job!

Lothan von Deimos is a demon whose personal agenda is to see to it that bad demons and spirits do nor run amok among humans. Both, at one time or another, were her lovers and both missed her incredibly much. The relationships ended because each felt there was something missing. Could this night seemingly bound to end in disaster actually be a reunion of sorts?

Wow! When you read this book, if you are unattached, you will definitely need a cold shower or an ice bath. It is hot, hot, HOT!!! The sex scenes will burn your fingers and make your eyes water with the steaminess. The way the characters play off each others' emotions and feelings is beyond sexy. The lovemaking incorporates all characters without anyone being left out or forgotten, and that is a tribute to the talent of the author. I had read a few books that contained threesomes but this book takes it to a whole other level. A very amazing level. I loved that it was a quick read but a satisfying read. All parts of the story came together without being rushed or glossed over. Additionally, the love scenes did not overpower the underlying thread which is that love doesn't have to be between just two people. Sometimes more is better.

Fans of Lara Adrian’s Breed novels will be delighted with this fifth and latest installment in the series, which far exceeds any and all expectations one could have for its author. In Veil of Midnight, Nikolai the youngest Breed known for his daredevil attitude, is given the task of locating a reclusive Gen One Breed named Sergei Yakut who the Brethren believe might be targeted for assassination. At the same time Niko is hunting for Yakut in Montreal, the search continues for Dragos and his ancient ancestor. Added to Nikos duties is the ongoing fight that always follows the Breed, to engage any and all enemies they might encounter on a nightly basis. What Niko does not expect to find in Canada is his destiny in the form of one willowy brunette human, a Breedmate named Renata serving as Sergei Yakut’s bodyguard. Like knights of old, Niko and Renata are given a task, an innocent is at risk, and they are allowed some latitude to accomplish that task and maintain their honor while attaining the “grail.”

Ms. Adrian’s writing is very poetic and lyrical, evoking images of knights and castles as she sets up her scenes, yet at the same time managing to stay very hip and contemporary in terms of dialogue and style. This juxtaposition works very well, creating a lush, stylized world in which her characters are able to interact in a believable context, even though we known that it is fantasy. In Nikolai we are given one of her most sensitive heroes, not afraid to show his “human[HAC1] ” side, and the perfect foil to Renata, perhaps the strongest and most developed of her heroines thus far. While the relationship develops quickly, the interactions between Niko and Renata support that level of intimacy with their sensuality and vividness. It is clear that Ms. Adrian knows how to frame a love scene, and those in Veil of Midnight manage to be both beautiful and erotic at the same time. For anyone who is not familiar with this series, I highly recommend both the series and this book, keeping in mind that Veil of Midnight can stand alone, it’s just that good!

Cat’s still working for her Uncle, baiting and eliminating rogue vampires but now vampires are starting to see through her disguises, placing her and her team in danger. But is it Cat or Bones, their newest enemy is after?

Once I learned of the pending release of At Grave’s End, I began waiting impatiently and Ms. Frost did not disappoint me. Cat and Bones are as lively and real as they were in books one and two of this series. New and old, familiar characters join the fray in a thrilling ride, that had me laughing, crying, and pondering the “who-done-its.” All of the characters feel very much alive and Ms. Frost’s writing style easy to follow. Bones and Cat’s relationship is as hot as always and the growth of Cat’s mother, Justina impressed me a great deal. One of the new kids on the block in this installment is Vlad (what vampire story is complete without Dracula?). Vlad became one of my new favorites as the story progressed, with his flashy, superior airs. Though there is no cliff hanger ending, I still anxiously await the next book in this series.

This book and the whole series is a must read for any who love a good vampire story and for everyone else.

In this book we see what happened while he was captured and some of the scenes in Dark Desires After Dusk from a new perspective. Sabine is the Queen of Illusions and has a passing acquaintance with telling the truth. Instead of the usual external plot driving this book, Rydstrom and Sabine’s story focus more on the two of them and their negotiating their differences.

Kiss of A Demon King didn’t enthrall me as much as the previous books in the series. However, that could be simply the fact that Rydstrom has never stuck with me as a character. Not that he’s a bad character, just not one that called to me as much as say his brother Cade. However, Sabine makes up for any shortcomings that Rydstrom has for me. The other charm of the book is seeing what is happening elsewhere while the events in Dark Desires takes place.

Dawn Keepers is the second book in Jessica Andersen’s The Final Prophecy series. The series is built around Mayan mythology belief that on December 21, 2012 demons from the underworld will trigger an apocalypse. The Nightkeepers, a race of magic wielding warrior priests, are fighting to stop that. This book features two Nightkeepers that were introduced in the first book, Nate Blackhawk and Alexis Gray.

Jessica Anderson is one of those authors that draws you slowly into the book. There is no immediate hook to draw the reader forward, instead she provides a lure. Dawn Keepers held my interest, just as its predecessor Nightkeepers did. This is not a light read, there are Mayan terms to learn, she does provide a glossary, and multiple villains to find and defeat. In the middle of all of this is the romance between Nick and Alexis. Though both were born to Nightkeeper parents, their childhoods were extremely different and provide a lot of the tension between them. Sometimes the twists and turns of the book don’t seem to make sense but if you stick with it you’ll discover that they do indeed mesh together.

For once in his life, he can see something other than music in his life, and her name is Chloe. Although not as well developed as I would have hoped, the humor is the highlight in this book for me. It lacked a substantial story life and I kept waiting for something big thing to happen. The humor of the story though, carried the book. I just adore Chloe's quick wit and banter. She is a feisty gal that will not take no for an answer. Pete on the other hand is the polar opposite of Chloe. Moody, private and cut off from the world through his music. I enjoyed finding out how Chloe breaks through Pete's barriers and shows him a whole other world. Victoria Blisse is a very humorous writer and I look forward to reading more books from her.

Sahara Kelly nailed it on this story. It had all the elements of desire, intrigue, compassion and lust. I absolutely adored these two characters together. They seemed to steam up several pages in the book. I loved the bonds they formed and the heartache each endured when they other was not there. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to any romance reader. It is not offensive and shows that love really can exist at first site. Sahara is one of my new favorite authors and I will most definately be looking for new stories from her. She will be an author to watch in the future.
