Is the killer watching over Miranda--and will their protection come in time?

Review: I really enjoyed ready Cool Water because of its twist in the story line. I liked how the author, Joan Alexander, developed the characters. I could identify with the women who had been stalked through the way in which Ms. Alexander described their emotions and thoughts as they feared for their lives. The delayed introduction of the main character was a little strange but it added more detail to who she was and what her goals were. I did feel that her character would have benefited from a longer story and more information on her family, friends, and significant other. Character development through relationships is more rounded. The main character was devoid of any real interaction with coworkers, which was a little odd since her job required human interaction. The story was great, I loved the “happy ending” with her only real friend and her boyfriend as it made me feel hopeful that she would begin living a relatively normal life. This could be turned into a full novel or series that I would read.

It’s not the same old love story when a princess and her guardian exchange bodies due to a botched spell. Add a clueless maid-servant along with a half witted giant who loves pretty girls, and this bawdy, romance takes off with plenty of adventure and a bit of situational comedy.

Princess Marissa, a virgin, yearns to be a man so she can control her fate. Captain Bardak is sworn to protect her. The caravan is attacked; all are killed, save the princess, the injured captain, and Janelle, a loyal but superstitious servant. They are taken captive by the minions of a vengeful wizard intent on using the princess to avenge himself on the king. An enchantment goes awry, and the captain and the princess secretly switch bodies. Can Bardak, in his unfamiliar, frail, female persona, manage to save Marissa, near dead in his battered body, so he can return her form in a virtuous state?

It'll be a tough battle, because Marissa quickly learns to enjoy being a male and wants to try out her new ‘equipment,’ while Janelle lusts for the captain. And even if Bardak succeeds, he’s likely to be executed by the princess’s hardhearted father.

I admit, this story is funny and at the same time insightful about how gender roles effect our view on life and society. I doubt I’m alone is wondering what it would be like to be a man. Even by today’s standards, men have more freedom, they have better jobs and earn higher wages even in jobs done by both sexes. On the other hand, men have more job stress and suffer from far more stress related illnesses, all so they can bring home the proverbial bacon as society demands they must. So who really has more freedom?

There are two points, however, that rub me the wrong way in this story. The first is a contradiction in the theme and the actions. Bardak repeatedly states that gender is irrelevant and it is the actions you take that cast your lot in life. Yet when Marissa and Bardak switch bodies, it is the male personality that dominates in both cases. Marissa, in Bardak’s body, gives in so completely to her newly found masculinity, she even chooses to a new, male name for herself. Furthermore, as soon as she is returned to her body, she returns to her more submissive role. In the case of Bardak, even under pressure he is always able to direct and dictate the female traits.

The second is the repeated use of rape. I understand that it was not an uncommon practice in the mediaeval period for invaders to have their way with the women – it’s why we have the phrase “rape and pillage” after all. But within the confines of the story, it happens or is hinted at so often that it feels over done. There are plenty of way to torture someone, be they male or female, and a little creativity goes a long way.

Overall, this is a fun and funny story, and I recommend it highly.

A brilliant story filled with humor, light and love. My heart was breaking for Julie from the start. I kept thinking, come on Julie! You're smart! Find a way to save him! I love the ending, which I'm keeping secret. You've gotta read it for yourself! Ms. Treanor is a wonderful storyteller, spinning her webs of drama, passion into happilly ever afters. There is no way people would go to the lengths they do to get sex if it was really this bad.

That’s what Marisa is thinking after yet another frustrating night. She doesn’t want a relationship. She doesn’t want love, at least not right now. What she does want is some of the hot sex that everyone else raves about…and she doesn’t know where to start.

Enter Darren Knight, Marisa’s best friend and longtime crush. Offering a casual sexual apprenticeship, he helps Marisa gain the confidence to ask for and get what she wants. A sizzling new world opens up for her, including BDSM, stripteases – and Darren’s sexy brother, Eric.

But can she take her newfound confidence to the next level and live out her ultimate fantasy?

Don’t lie you know we have all had them. All those guys that we think are firecrackers but end up duds and misfires. How many of them must a woman endure and just how can we find that one true firecracker? Poor Marisa seems to be on a roll with her duds. That is until her best friend Darren decides to lend her a helping hand. He vows to draw her out of her shell and teach her how to get just what she needs from a man and how to find a good one as well.

This book had me from the first page. I truly enjoyed watching Marisa open up and come into her own. The way she takes control of her life in and out of the bedroom was great. Who could resist her mentor and best friend Darren or even his brother Eric for that matter? I am sure many women could relate to what Marisa went through. One can only wish that we all had a Darren in our lives to help us when we need him. From great friends to lovers the relationship between Marisa and Darren blooms to new heights. As Marisa gains more confidence she shines and the right men see it. Now her only problem is how to pick just one of them. I know I couldn’t begin to pick just one myself either. With Eric and Max along for the ride as well it is a hard choice to make but what a ride it is.

It is a beautiful thing to watch all the relationships build along with Marisa and her faith in her self. This story sizzled right off of the pages and should not be missed. Lauren Gallagher writes a great flowing book with wonderful characters. I will be on the look out for more stories from this author. If they are anything like this book I know I wont be disappointed.

Blurb: Darlene Moore's reason for shunning Parker Shane has nothing to do with his reputation of being a playboy. She even dates him before the death of her mother forces her to move away. After a two-year absence from Dalesville, she returns home to find Parker exchanging wedding vows with her sister. Two months later, her sister dies.

Then Richard Ryan, head of Dalesville's wealthy, prominent family, and Parker's employer, goes missing. Could there be a connection to his disappearance and Parker's unexpected promotion?

Danger and questions a plenty barrage Darlene with the deadly speed of a six-shooter. Who called down a representative from a Washington agency? Who later assaulted him? Who attacked Darlene at her friend's apartment? And will Parker's scandalous brand of playboy be changed to one of murderous culprit? Or, in the moment of Darlene's greatest need, might he become her rescuing knight?

REVIEW: This is another winning book from Miss Mae! Lots of intrigue with a sweet romance!

Darlene is a wonderful young lady. The story starts when she is a tender, sweet 16 and follows her young crush, young encounters, first date and finally the recognition of her true love four years later.

Parker is a young man with a rough beginning and a bit of a reputation. But when he meets a sweet and determined 16 year old spitfire he is willing to mend his wicked ways for “Pepper”, as he nicknames Darlene!

I must admit that I am not accustomed to reading YA although I have read a couple these past several months. It is fun to relate to Darlene’s teenage struggles with a mother who won’t let her date until she is 18 and yet she wants to be popular, especially with the cute boys! There is an extra dynamic of an older sister who has a boyfriend who is Darlene’s first real crush! That relationship plays an important part in the overall story.

Miss Mae has developed believable personalities in her characters and wonderful mystery twists that I love about her books! As with the other wonderful books I have read by Miss Mae, she provides several suspects for the danger and trouble that abounds. This makes her books so much fun as you try to figure out the true villain because it isn’t always whom you first suspect! There are hints but some of them are hidden!

There was a point midway that was a bit slow for me, but do not worry! Soon the action starts up and the mystery gets moving full force. Then the book just flies by as you read to find out what happens! Miss Mae writes wonderfully sweet mysteries that can be enjoyed by everyone. Pick this up for a good mystery read!

On a soggy November night in 1940, New York City’s protector and top gangbuster, a trench coated, masked vigilante known as the Silver Scorpion, is about to be murdered by a turncoat cop. Suddenly a pretty blonde appears in an expanding ball of light appears and shoots him point blank with what looks like a shiny metal bazooka. The Scorpion disappears.

One hundred and forty years later, a clandestine organization known as the Lazarus Project prepares to risk incarceration, ruin, and death in order to reverse the effects of almost a century and a half of decadence and corruption. America’s once great city is now its biggest cesspool.

It’s a daunting task. The good people of the city have all given up or moved out. The evil rule ruthlessly. The city needs a hero. The city needs hope. It needs the Silver Scorpion. It’s about to get him, ready or not.

Let’s be fair: He dons a mask after his family is killed by a random act of violence, draws on a traumatizing experience with an animal from his childhood to create his new persona, and uses high-tech, self-made gadgets and his superior intellect to fight crime by night.

He’s Batman.

Okay, he’s not exactly Batman, but they are definitely cut from the same black cloth.

This story is fun and interesting. It touches on how the choices we make effect the world on the whole, and choosing battles you can win. There are few logical paradoxes sprinkled throughout, but nothing story stopping. If I had to nitpick, I’d say this story is too short. The Scorpion finds the head of the proverbial snake after stopping only a few low ranking criminals. It also does not take him long to decide he needs a new angle to win his personal war.

Overall, this is a very good story, that I would like to see become a series.

People say bad things about Dianne's parents that just aren't true; they're a vampire and werewolf...so?

It's hard enough for Dianne to be fifteen and obviously to love her parents, even worse when there's something weird about them no one quite understands. Her father being a vampire and her mother being a werewolf is a simple fact of life. More worrisome are Mom and Dad getting sick for unknown reasons, the effect an accidental display of power is having on her social life, and the possibility that the boy next door thinks she's a freak. Matthew seems to like her, yet there's something off about him. Dr. Nat Silver, a vampire with several medical degrees, may provide some answers. For the most part Dianne feels it's her wit and devotion versus a world more cruel than any supernatural being could ever be.

One of the main reasons I gave this book a top rating is because Ms. Haymond took subjects; vampires, werewolves and shape-shifters and changed the norms for them. In this story they can actually get sick and die. I love paranormal stories, and I enjoyed having a different perspective. A more humanistic story. Dianne is the main character and she is going through a change of her own along with dealing with her parents illness. I also liked how Ms. Haymond ties in all the characters at the end, giving a good ending if you stop with this one, but leaving it wide open for pulling you into reading future books in this series. The other reason I gave this a high rating, is simple, I wanted to immediately buy the 1st in the series to read. I think that's a sign of a good story for me.

Prof. Alfred Rhys Smythe returns home to Victorian London after years abroad only to discover that a blood-thirsty cult of vampires is stalking the city's theatre district. Having sought the aid of sympathetic Scotland Yard Inspector, Arthur Jenkins, the two men move closer to solving the mystery of the illusive vampire lord's identity.

Smythe fears that his own mother, believed long dead by his family, may now actually be a vampire under the control the vampire lord, so he and Jenkins go on the offensive, tracking down the vampire horde to their lair beneath an old theatre. But the mysterious vampire lord plays his trump card when he takes his own vengeance against Smythe's older brother, Ian, a less-than-successful stage actor.

In My Soul to Take, Part II: Enter Death, Stage Right, author William A. Veselik weaves a tale of mystery and edge-of-your-seat terror inspired by the eerie atmosphere and vivid action of the classic Hammer Horror films starring Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. The trilogy comes to its exciting conclusion in Part III, The Vampire Lord Unmasked.

There are two major problems with this book. The first is that it is boring. While the writing is technically correct, it’s long winded and clinical. While it is important to be correct in writing, there should be some flexibility in the name of style.

The second issue is that this story feels less like the second in a series, and more like an extension of the first book. In series books there should be a short history of the characters as they are re-introduced to the readers. We don’t need a time line for every character, but a few tidbits of their history to help us remember who they are and what role they’ve played up to this point. There is just too much going on for a reader to remember every character in any given story, and why we should care about them.

Overall, the book isn’t bad, just dull.

I had some problems with this book. It wasn’t that the storyline wasn’t intriguing or that it didn’t grab me from the beginning; it was and it did. The problems I had were that it didn’t keep me as well as it could have and the characters were very two dimensional.

There was a lot of room for growth here, and I really felt that the author just didn’t use that room to expand her characters. I had no real investment in them. At the height of the action – both in terms of the loose plotline and the relationship, such as it was – I really didn’t find myself caring whether Antoine and Jack ended up together or if Antoine would make it in time to save the day. Yes, we learned a little bit about both of them during the course of the story, but most of it was snippets of background information, none of which really gave any insight into the characters themselves.

One of the other issues I had was with Jack and his “struggle” to come to terms with his sexuality. There’s a lot of telling about how Jack isn’t that kind of man, or about him being afraid that someone will discover “his secret” and very little showing the reader what he’s going through. As it stands, I had a hard time believing in Jack’s conflict. It felt a lot like he was just going through the motions, and he gave in very quickly.

I would have liked to like Antoine. He seemed, at first, like he could be a very interesting character, in a rather flamboyant, in-your-face way…but that never really happened. Yes, we had a lot of Jack thinking about how much of a “flaming faggot” Antoine was; but we never really got to see that – other than maybe in his wardrobe.

So, why, if I don’t seem to have liked this book very much, am I not just leaving it on the shelf? Because I actually was entertained by it and there were some very nice scenes here. I greatly enjoyed some of Jack and Antoine’s interactions, and the sex in the garden was hot. (Although I will admit to feeling a little cheated by that fade to black scene at the end. >_>)

Also, I see a lot of potential in the author and the story. If this were to be a series, and any subsequent books dealt with these two characters and their search for the villain, I might be inclined to pick up the next one, just to see if the characters develop more and to see if they actually catch the bad guy. The whole premise here was intriguing. It just felt more like a first or second draft than something that was ready for publication.

Her reaction to his chivalry..." You bungling idiot!!!? Everything's changed. It's you he’s after now.”

When I first started reading this story, I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy it or not. However the further along I got in the story, the more I wanted to know what was going to happen to Ashley and Crystal. There were a few surprises along the way, like a magical rose bush, which I did not see coming at all. This is probably due to not reading the first two books in this series. Now I find myself wanting to read the other books and the new one coming out soon. I'm so glad I did not give up on this story or author. I was pleasantly surprised by the ending and can't wait to see what she has in store with the next book. You definitely need to pick up "We're One" and all the other stories in this series. Sera becomes Cressida's apprentice, gains a familiar and falls into more danger than she could have imagined.. Together they must solve the mystery of Leyla's locket, the family tree and the fire if either of them is to escape with their lives. One thing is certain, either all of Sera's fondests dreams or worst nightmares will finally come true.

Ms. Jackson has created a world which blends seamlessly with our own. Engaging and heartfelt, her characters feel like old friends rather than ink and paper. This book is told from both Sera and Cressida point of view, putting us in the mind of both heroines. Most of the young adult books I've read, focus on one main character with the world wrapping around them, but here the author has blended both heroines allowing them to co-exist in a novel.. Not an easy task to blend an adult's thought and a child's while still making the book enjoyable for both. Well done and I've added her to the list.

In Amberweise's polite society, a proper young woman of pure Magician ancestry would never involve herself with something as unpleasant as solving a murder. She would faint at the sight of wheels, pulleys, hinges or other demonic machines. She would never deign to notice the wretched lives of the non-magical commons who serve her day and night, nor would she ever dare to question the traditions of her upbringing. And, most certainly, she would never even think of falling in love with a man whose combination of common heritage and magical abilities have made him a pariah.

Good thing Romana of Amberweise isn’t a proper young woman.

Now, as she works to solve the mystery of her granduncle’s brutal murder, Romana uncovers a fearsome plot to overthrow a ruler whose tolerance for technology just might release the commons from their centuries of bondage. Besieged by dangerous enemies, Romana must use her courage and cunning to rebel against the powerful Magicians who will do anything to protect their lives of prestige and privilege.

This was a pleasure to read. It is a wonderful murder mystery served along side a mound of political intrigue with a double helping of subtle romance. The characters are well rounded and well defined, each with their own history, passions, and weaknesses.

What I found I enjoyed the most was how the romance flowed with the story instead of railroading it as so often done in this genre. The relationships featured range from chaste to scandalous, each suited to the couple.

The only issue I had with this story was its questionable take simple machines. Things such as wheels, pullies, arrows, and wedges are considered evil and items of the occult. While this idea may work in some settings, a medieval style city isn’t one of them. It is a hard idea to swallow, because it asks the reader to accept that an uncaring aristocracy would take time to help those they considered below them. A Duke would not be expected to build the homes for his serfs.

The very process to create every day items in fact demands the use of these “occult” items. Cloths and tapestries, for example, do not leap fully-formed from nothing. Sheep must be sheered, cotton must be picked, and silk worms must be unwrapped. And even if all these tasks could be accomplished without any simple machine, the raw material must still be made into thread. With no alternative explanation given, a spinning wheel is the device that comes to mind.

Despite this lack of continuity on a pivotal issue of the story, this book is still very good and well worth the read. I highly recommend it.

After her boyfriend dumps her in the parking lot, humiliation becomes gratitude when Hank invites her to his favorite camping spot, and she seizes on the impulse to change her boring life.

I loved this story for one main reason- it's why I love romances. The story was so fun. It was also filled with hot and steamy sex scenes, and the figuring out how this relationship will work stuff. I giggled over the start of the book when Dana bumps into Hank in the camping section. It still makes me laugh and blush when I think about it. The characters have their moments of making the relationship work, but that just leads to great making up in so many ways. I had almost hoped Dana would run into her ex somewhere in the story with Hank with her. I always think I like longer books, but the length on this one was just right. Enough to read in one sitting, but filled with everything I needed or wanted to know. Ms. Masters can write a story filled with all the ingredients for a good erotic, romance in my book.

I thought this was such a sweet story. A story of love lost and the ability to find love again. Both Jack and Sara have lost significant people in their lives due to death, and that makes for a hard story to write. I think Ms. Thorne found the right mix of detail without harping on the sadness of the deaths. I enjoyed all the tension between Jack and Sara. They really can't stand each other at the beginning, but Sara learns to trust him. Ms. Thorne does a great job writing, and giving the characters a life of their own. I really liked the depth of Jack. He has to learn to open up and trust again too. I liked using sea turtle research as Jack's passion.

Enter the world of The Lost, a tribe of vampires who are sworn to coexist with humans while leaving them strictly alone. However, that isn’t always possible…

The Lost 1: Broken Vows: Daniel's looking for answers about his sexuality. He’s sure just one night with an older, experienced man will finally answer the questions that have been tormenting him for years. But he doesn’t expect the older man to be a gorgeous vampire named Gabrielle. It’s love at first sight for Daniel but Gabrielle has made a vow not to interfere in human affairs.

The Lost 2: Blood Hustler: James became a vampire almost two hundred years ago and recently lost his only companion. Even though he's lonely, the grief's too fresh to be looking for another man to fill the hole in his heart. Then Tad, a young street hustler, offers to sell James the best sex he’s ever had. James knows he shouldn’t bind a human to him, especially one as young as Tad who hasn’t experienced life yet, but the boy’s hungry heart calls to his own.

Let me start this off by explaining the rating. These were two very different stories with very different tones and quality. For that reason, I’ve split the difference and given the overall rating I have. Also, since the stories were so different, I’ll be giving each its own review. So! Away we go!

The Lost 1: Broken Vows
Rating: You Could Read

I had a little trouble with the premise of this story. We start off with our main character, Daniel, on a bus, on his way to what I presume to be the local gay strip. Not so much of an issue until you find out that the reason Daniel’s on that bus is because he thinks he might be gay and wants to pick up – and, one would assume, sleep with – some random stranger in order to prove, once and for all, that he is, indeed, gay.

Now, I do think that I might not have had so much trouble with this if the author had taken things a little farther than she did. Yes, we’re told that Daniel has been dealing with his father’s bigotry for a while and that he’s just a bit conflicted over his sexuality. But we aren’t ever shown any of that. By the time we get into the heart of the matter – the sex – Daniel isn’t really all that conflicted. And that left me a little disappointed.

Something else I had an issue with was the dialog during sex. Just a little note about that: “Fuck” is not sexy. It’s a real turn-off to read someone speaking of love and then see them refer to the act as “fucking.” The mood was a lot tenderer than I, personally, associate with that word; and seeing it right there in the middle of the scene just threw me.

The relationship itself felt very rushed, and I didn’t have a whole lot invested in the characters themselves. For that reason, their separation wasn’t as upsetting as I think the author may have been trying for. The build-up at the end helped a bit, but the whole thing was still very rushed.

All that said, though, the story was decent. I would have loved to have had a little more information on the Lost themselves and on what made Gabriel decide to take up the path that he had. The sex was hot, even if some of Gabriel’s speech was a little stilted and “people don’t talk that way!” and when I ignored the things that turned me off, I found myself able to enjoy what I was reading. That I had to do that, however, is why this is a solid You Could Read.

The Lost 2: Blood Hustler
Rating: You Need to Read

Now, this is what I was missing in the first story. The characters are believable, there’s build-up in the relationship, and that build-up is completely plausible. I had no trouble believing that James was very attracted to Tad. Given his history and the time period in which he grew up, taking in a stray waif is perfectly plausible.

I greatly enjoyed the interactions between these two characters. Tad’s gruff manner and way of speaking was a wonderful contrast to James’ more refined and cultured ones. I also loved that there was a little more explanation of The Lost themselves. This is what I was looking for in the first story but didn’t get, and it was very nice to see it here.

I loved these characters. They have depth, and I found myself really interested and invested in the outcome of the story. I also found myself wanting to reach through the screen and strangle James for that stunt with the memory adjustments. He made up for it, but still…

The sex here was incredibly fulfilling. Especially considering that it aided in the growth of the characters’ relationship. James’ discovery and understanding of Tad’s hang-ups was both endearing and helped to establish his caring nature. What can I say? I’m a sucker for sex that helps advance the plot or enhances characterization, and that was very much evident here.

The only thing that kept this story from being a very solid You Gotta Read is that the ending was very predictable. After a certain point, I knew exactly what was going to happen before it did. It was no surprise when Tad’s tormentor met his end, and not surprise that James would be there when he was needed most.

In 1776 England, American born Anadreya Macgregor is branded a spy by the arrogant Marquis of Canderlay. Despite her pleas of innocence, he refuses to listen and has her imprisoned. Aided by the Scottish father she never knew, Dreya escapes to Dragon's Breath Castle.

Five years later, the laird is missing and a badly injured Frenchman washes ashore. Dreya is wary of the blind and amnesic man, though something about him is hauntingly familiar. Is he an ally or a ruthless mercenary who stumbled upon her father's smuggling activities?

The stranger's vision and memory gradually return and Dreya discovers her fate and the continued existence of her clan might very well be in his hands. As the web of deception binding them together unravels, both are in danger of losing everything. Including their hearts.

This is a remarkably engaging historical debut! Full of action, mystery and romance! This is a book that catches your attention from the get go and keeps you turning pages to find out what happens!!

Dreya is a wonderfully bold and strong young woman. She manages to escape from the England and goes to live with the Scottish father she had never met. Although her father is thrilled to learn he has a daughter he is involved in activities that keep him on the “hit” list of the King of England. Any stranger at Dragon’s Breath is suspect and Dreya doesn’t know what to do with the injured “gentleman pirate” found on the rocks.

Lucian awakens in a strange place, blind and with no memory of who he is. He is pretty arrogant under all circumstances which creates a heightened tension between him and Dreya. A pleasant friendship develops between them during his weeks of recuperation but there still isn’t total trust. Then Lucian risks his life to save Dreya’s dog. So why does she lock him in the dungeon after that?

Lucian has begun to heal and regain his sight under the care of Dreya and the clan’s ancient healer and seer, Edwina. He escapes the dungeons and the Castle with a little help from Edwina and Dreya’s cousin, Derek. While doing so he locks Dreya in the dungeon which convinces her that he will betray her family and clan. He has the knowledge to declare the Macgregor a traitor and regain his own family land and titles from the King. But if he does so can he live with bringing destruction to Dreya and all the people at Dragon’s Breath?

The Macgregor has been missing and overdue at sea for months. A particularly nasty ship of pirates are looking for him and willing to use any means, including kidnapping Dreya, to capture the Macgregor and win the King’s reward. Is Lucian aiding the pirates? Will he give evidence against Macgregor? Or will he go back and somehow rescue the intrepid Scottish lass?

The author brings these characters to life and surrounds them with a beautiful, rugged setting and a good mysterious plot. The action starts from the first few pages and continues to the end. I would describe the romance as lightly sensual which confirms to me that it is not necessary to have even steamy interaction to have a good story. This is a great entertaining read and I highly recommend it!

He's spent more than a century building an Enclave of warrior vampires who have sworn their allegiance to defend humanity and to eliminate the ancient vampire determined to destroy them all. After two centuries of denying his body's needs to gain strength, he's poised to take his vengeance when he meets a new love, who he burns to claim as his own. But giving her his love will surely mean her death.

Emily Ross is a nurse struggling to start a new life. She's a survivor, coming off the tail end of an abusive relationship and the tragic death of her parents. All she wants is time alone to learn who she is without a man and to save the home that holds her heart. The last thing she wants is another controlling, dominant male calling all the shots, in bed and out. Never would she have thought stopping her car one night to save a dying man might change her mind, and her life, forever. But is what they have, their desire, worth dying for?

While a bit on the cookie cutter side, this is a good story. The characters are vivid and on the whole have rational reactions to their world.

But what keeps this for being a “Gotta Read” for me is Markus, or rather the events surrounding him. According to the story, the Enclave has been together for a century or more, and that is more then enough time to get to know someone and all their quirks. So when a person does something out of character, someone should say something. When that person continues to act odd, someone should definitely say something. When the super secret fortress that has never been breached is suddenly attacked with great precision while said person is AWOL, everyone should assume the worst.

Overall, the story is passable, and entertaining enough to be worth rereading in the future.

Especially when it's a time where women weren't looked upon as independent. Catherine proves to be strong and capable. Of course there's also the good looking knight to fall in love with. I enjoyed all the little stories, involving multiple characters, going on in one story. The deception of the best friend. The kidnapping and rescue all made up a great story! That's the thing that makes this book worthy of reading. Ms. Mallory incorporated so many extra storylines, without overwhelming the reader, so you are left with a great outcome and action packed. I look forward to reading Ms. Mallory's future books. I think Ms. Mallory writes a great historical romance.

Greg and Tess MacAvoy are one of four prominent Nantucket couples who count each other as best friends. As pillars of their close-knit community, the MacAvoys, Kapenashes, Drakes, and Wheelers are important to their friends and neighbors, and especially to each other. But just before the beginning of another idyllic summer, Greg and Tess are killed when their boat capsizes during an anniversary sail. As the warm weather approaches and the island mourns their loss, nothing can prepare the MacAvoy's closest friends for what will be revealed.

Once again, Hilderbrand masterfully weaves an intense tale of love and loyalty set against the backdrop of endless summer island life.

Wow, where do I begin! This book is not your typical beach read! Its much more. Elin Hilderbrand weaves a tale of friendship, love, lust and betrayal among eight friends (all couples) who call themselves "The Castaways." They are a close knit group who share their personal lives in every way. The book opens with the drowning death of Greg and Tess MacAvoy and chapter by chapter, we are introduced to the other characters (Addison and Phoebe, the Chief and Andrea, Jeffrey and Delilah) as they tried to unravel the events that lead to that horrific day. The question forefront in my mind was: did the boat capsize in bad weather or was foul play involved?

I enjoyed the way in which the story was developed with each chapter exploring one of the friends and his/her role in the group. As I got deeper into the story, I couldn’t help but feel connected to the characters and though I didn’t like each one, I could empathize with their issues. Each couple had their strengths which made them unique but also had their weaknesses; which threatened to destroy their own relationships as well as their friendship as part of the Castaways.

There are countless secrets and lies weaving a thin thread throughout the story and the reader is left to slowly unravel the intricacies of their friendship. I must say I was not expecting some of the twists and turns as the story progressed. To get into more detail would be to give the story away but I will say its one of my favorite summer reads of 2009 and which you must add to your “you need to read” pile.

Larissa comes to Kansas City after winning a trip to see where her favorite series of books takes place. She expects to have a great time with her three scheduled fantasy dates and an all-expenses- paid shopping spree. When she meets two men at different points in her vacation, she is suddenly torn between them. Finding out they know each other, and are perfectly willing to share her, in and out of bed, is more than a dream come true. It’s a fantasy.

Devon and Jared know that Larissa is their mate; they just have to convince her. And hope she doesn’t freak when she finds out they are the werewolves she has been reading about for the past six years. But they can’t tell her until their pack has finished “testing her suitability” as an alpha female. All they can do is hope she will forgive them when she finds out the truth.

Yet, the real truth is something none of them suspects. And may be enough to drive them apart permanently.

When Rissa, a Philadelphia accountant, wins an all expenses paid fantasy vacation courtesy Canid Publishing, she travels to Kansas City where she meets one disaster after another with her dates. While there she also meets Jared and Devon, deliciously handsome and with all eyes for her.

After a wonderful date with Jared, which later leads back to her room, she questions her morals and yes, her luck. In love with both men, and they with her, will she be able to accept their secrets?

Fans of the menage genre will certainly love this book. Dreamy heroes who accept a woman for who she is inside, not just her jean size, were a refreshing change of pace. Love scenes were very, very hot and a little adventurous frequently throughout the story, but the love was there. Ms. Bosco portrays both character and scenery with clarity, creating characters you can root for. Very nice!

Only for those I love would I traipse into the merciless Northlands to risk life, limb, and my exquisite beauty. But do they appreciate it? Do they say, 'Gwenvael the Handsome, you are the best among us - the most loved of all dragons?' No! For centuries my family has refused to acknowledge my magnificence as well as my innate humility. Yet for them, and because I am so chivalrous, I will brave the worst this land has to offer. So here I stand, waiting to broker an alliance with the one the Northlanders call The Beast. A being so fearful, the greatest warriors will only whisper its name. Yet I, Gwenvael, will courageously face down this terrifying...woman? It turns out the Beast, a.k.a. Dagmar Reinholdt, is a woman - one with steel-gray eyes and a shocking disregard for my good looks. Beneath her plain robes and prim spectacles lies a sensual creature waiting to be unleashed. Who better than a dragon to thaw out that icy demeanor? And who better than a beast to finally tame a mighty dragon's heart?

G.A. Aiken continues her wonderful Dragon Kin Series with Gwenvael's story. I first came across Ms. Aiken in a compilation that had a short story dealing with Gwenvael's grandparents and fell in love. This is book three in the series that followed that short story and every one just gets better and better. Her characters are so entertaining and real. I stayed up until four in the morning because I couldn't put this one down. They make me laugh out loud, and I mean have to put the book down because I'm laughing so hard. This one made me cry.

I absolutely adore the interacts of Gwenvael and his family and the chaos it often creates for outsiders catching a glimpse. Her male leads are sexy and very lovable. Gwenvael the top example of this with his easy way of being a complete and utter pest but still managing to wiggle his way into your heart. Her females are strong and quite capable of handling themselves in just about any situation. Dagmar shows herself as such from the very beginning, manipulating her brutish father into sound political choices. The love scenes are VERY HOT and her writing is smooth and easy to devour.

I am eagerly and impatiently awaiting the next book in the series, which although has not been announced is definitely sure to come. There is much more that can be told in this world of Ms. Aiken's. This book needs to be on the top of your reading pile, along with the others in the series, Dragon Actually and About A Dragon.
