Kostova's masterful new novel travels from American cities to the coast of Normandy, from the late 19th century to the late 20th, from young love to last love. THE SWAN THIEVES is a story of obsession, history's losses, and the power of art to preserve human hope.

Elizabeth Kostova delivers a fabulous book again. The Swan Thieves weaves a intense tale of love, love lost, blackmail and painting. She mixes obsession with life. Mental illness with sanity. I was left with the feeling that I had been a character in the book. Like I had lived in both time periods and that I had experienced the loss, the joy of painting, the ache of obsession, and the surprise of finding love in unexpected places. Ms. Kostova just weaves an unbelievably detailed, imaginative story, that leaves you exhausted and waiting for the next one.
