One woman. One choice. Three lives….SHATTERED
Kerry Warner did what she had to do. It was a difficult choice, but it was best for her daughter. Wasn't it? For twenty years, she has silently lived with the truth. Now, as her daughter's wedding nears, her past screams for her attention.
Janessa Warner has just finished college and is looking forward to marrying Garrett. Hours after a visit to his hometown begins, a horrifying car accident alters their plans. Janessa comes face-to-face with a woman from her mother's past. The very foundation of her life is shaken. Her search for answers only leads to more questions. Can God put the shattered pieces of her life back together and bring healing to her family? Or has He really abandoned her?
Janessa Warner has everything a woman could dream for, a college degree, wonderful family and a loving fiance. With Garrett intent on going to law school near his hometown, Janessa also decides to find a job in her field near Jackson, Michigan. A decision that may ultimately destroy all she knows. A car accident leaves Janessa will a long road of healing and leaning on others, but can her faith in God guide her on the path to peace?
Shattered is the story of a young woman on the brink of her future. Both she and Garrett, in fact all of the characters, are grounded in their faith in God. My heart broke for Janessa when she discovered her past, for her fathers, who both gained and lost their daughter and for her mother who truly belived what she did was right. I like how the author didn't try to excuse Kerri Warner's actions, but instead allowed her to deal with the consequences and renew her faith. Raw emotion radiates from this book, so don't expect to read it without shedding tears. You won't be able to help yourself. Rarely does a book affect me in such a way. Shattered misses the "Gotta Read' rating only because I have to take into account the editing which could be cleaner. In any case, Ms. McMonigal is a promising talent you are sure to enjoy reading.
