Blurb:
A no-strings relationship works well until Suzy meets the man who can keep her bound to his bed with minimal effort. Marco Giovanni is young blood, a rookie quarterback with a bright career. Suzy Illiani has a reputation but Marco doesn’t care about her past. He’s only interested in how she fits into his future.
When Suzy discovers Marco is headed to the Dallas Rascals, she makes a strategic move. Calling in favors, she aligns herself with a man destined for football greatness.
Even though Marco’s peers view Suzy as damaged goods, Marco falls in love with a woman he plans to change, but taming a vixen isn’t as easy as it looks. Soon, Marco realizes the only way to win Suzy’s love is to train her for submission. But the real challenge he finds is in the lack of control he feels whenever he’s holding her in his arms.

Review:
Suzy was a character that I found easy to hate. From previous books, I never thought there would be a redeeming quality in her character. I was so very wrong. Ms. Blaine has done the unimaginable and turned a character that I strongly disliked and gave her intriguing qualities. I found that I grew to understand Suzy and the reason she took the actions she did. Suzy was the type of girl who got what she wanted when she wanted it. She has no idea how to deal with not getting what she wants the moment she wants it. When she first sets eyes on Marco, she makes the mistake of putting him in the category of "every other man". My, my, my, Suzy has really done it this time, but can she give Marco what he really wants?

Marco was a drop dead italian who, very much younger than Suzy, showed her how a real woman should feel. Not just sexually but emotionally as well. He forced her to sit up and take notice of the way she had been living her life and if she really did want to continue down the same path as always. I found out things about Marco throughout the book that really shocked me because you don't really read about men like him often. I fell in love with Marco's character and I thought he was exactly what Suzy needed! Just a side note, when he made his first down and looked at Suzy, my heart skipped a beat! What a sweetheart.

I am a loyal fan of Destiny Blaine as anyone who really knows me can easily figure out. I've been looking forward to the fourth book in the Sports Wives series, Damaged Goods for a long time now. Destiny has changed this up a bit by making this a non menage book and I loved the refreshing change. Ms Blaine writes loves scenes with more than passion and excitement. She builds the moment and gives the passionate scenes very real meaning and depth. She brings her characters to life, flaws and all. Although Damaged Goods can certainly be read as a stand alone book, why would you want to? The entire series is just as good as this book and it's a definite not to miss book. I really did find this a fun and thrilling read with compelling characters. The plot line was amazing and I really didn't think I would end up loving Suzy's character, but a talented writer can bring you to that point and leave you wanting more. Which is what I want. I'm now tapping my fingers anxiously waiting on the next book. Hurry Ms. Blaine, HURRY!

For those who would like a list of books in the series, here they are in order.

Blurb: Can Jayne convince Santa to take her off the naughty list?

Santa’s nephews have come to Crystal Falls to run a cookie business. If they fail, they’ll have to go back to the North Pole and fill their uncle’s black boots when he retires. But sick of toys, elves, and the North Pole’s influence, that’s the last thing Landon and Aaron want. They’re looking for love.

Jayne isn’t much for sentimental family holidays and she certainly doesn’t believe in magic. Working in the Crystal Falls post office, she is mystified when she handles mail bearing a North Pole postal mark.

When Landon and Jayne meet, their attraction for each other is undeniable, but will the truth about Landon’s life make Jayne’s a believer, or will it be his love that finally melts her heart?

This is a fun story with some paranormal Christmas “Magic”!

Jayne doesn’t believe in Santa Clause. After all she can’t remember a good Christmas and never had Santa visit with presents at her poor household. But if she did believe wouldn’t it be nice if Santa brought her a man who could cook? Now that would be a miracle she’d like to see!

Landon and his brother have taken over Just Cookies, a cookie shop in Crystal Falls. Even though they don’t quite know what they are doing in the cookie business, Landon really wants to make it on his own instead of taking over the family business with its holiday stresses.

The attraction between these two is quick and electric and the dialogue is fun! When Landon tells Jayne that his Uncle is Santa Clause she thinks he’s delusional, crazy or just playing a nasty mean trick. Landon tries to show Jayne a bit of magic but Jayne still stubbornly refuses to believe in Christmas. Is there a Christmas miracle that can soften Jayne’s heart? Can Landon stay in Crystal Falls or will he go back to fill his role as Santa’s heir? You don’t have to wait for Christmas to read this quick book and enjoy the Christmas magic that Ms. Sookoo presents in this sweet story.

Is There Love After Murder? Fifteen years ago, Alvar went to prison for a murder he didn’t commit. Finally released, he comes face to face with the real murderer - the only woman he has ever loved.

This is an intense, striking romance and mystery!

Alvar is angry because he went to prison to protect the woman he loved. Now she shows up as soon as he is released insisting that she didn’t murder her abusive husband. In fact, all these years Edenia thought Alvar had committed the murder to which he confessed. She has waited for him to be released and built a house with him in mind. If Alvar acknowledges that Edenia isn’t the murderer then that means someone else is still out there who won’t want them looking too hard into the past.

Alvar and Edenia have a beautiful “reunion” with Alvar teaching Edenia that love doesn’t have to be brutal and degrading. Meanwhile Edenia’s friend and accountant, Stigr, is alarmed by this big man who appears to lead a violent life. As Alvar’s very rough “Boss” helps them to investigate the few leads they have from the murder, the tension builds.

I really liked this plot and the mystery that was built to a good twist at the end! It is well worth the small price for an intense read and I know that I can expect more good strong reads from Ms. Chin. Just a warning though that there is foul language that fits the mobster type characters.

When an ordinary woman discovers she's anything but ordinary, her life becomes an amazing journey into the land of dragon-shifters, and into the arms of the Crown Prince himself.

What a fun story! It’s hot and sweet and can be read before bed. Despite the length of the story, the characters have depth and emotion, history and ambition. And while the romance is a bit far fetched, the underlying whimsy of the tale makes it work.

My only complaint is that this story isn’t longer.

Rand, the crown prince, soon to take over the reins from his retiring father; Gracie, who longs to follow her dad's footsteps; and Jonathan, a powerful vindexicis warrior who has become the head of security for the royal family - all think they are on their set courses, until a prophesy shatters their belief.

Gracie was aware of the prophesy but with time and distance from her chosen mate, her belief in it is broken. She becomes livid when she finds out her father and the King of Venus have arranged her marriage to Rand. She's shocked to find out Rand wants the marriage to take place. Against the advice of his sentient power, Ruzac, Rand's given Gracie the time she's needed to grow up before claiming her. Now, with the time at hand, the mezlcar, their intense mating ritual, begins to burn as an unseen force plots against them, and Rand is torn between mating with or protecting his chosen.

Join the wild ride as Rand attempts to convince Gracie of their right to be together, all while trying to defeat the bad guys with a bit of help from his friends - a spunky offworlder, and two unpredictable sentient beings.

This is one of the most sexist stories I’ve ever read. It eventually gets around to the men treating the women are...well, equal-ish, it takes the entire story and requires a lot of unnecessary drama. I find it hard to swallow as a reader, that two characters who have literally known each other since childhood, would not have any idea of each others limits. And none of the characters, not one, will stop to talk to each other unless they are drunk or are forced to do so. Honestly, if the girls could kick the boys butts as kids, nothing is stopping them from doing so as adults.

Under all this drama that amounts to hurt feelings and a lack of communication skills, is a kidnaping plot that is terribly under-served. There is so much more that could have been done with this. It takes nothing for the characters to sleuth out the bad guys and deal with them. And despite all the talk of violent retribution, no more then a thimble full of blood is spilled in the entire story.

Overall, this story just doesn’t do anything for me. I’m not overly inclined to listen to a powerful character of any gender sit around and whine about their treatment when I they could be out changing their circumstance. It’s just false drama. Furthermore, when a story promises me action, I’d like it to deliver.

Now, more than a decade after that horrible event, Jud clings to a promise he made the night before Derek died. He vowed that he would never, ever, be with another man. And he’s clung to that vow with every bit of what’s left of his heart.

But Derek’s death brought an unlikely gift. After his lover died, Jud began to see spirits. And although ghosts have become his constant companions, the one spirit he longs to see only appears to him at Christmas. Or at least, he used to.

This year, Derek doesn’t come. But someone else does; a man who brings with him the kind of erotic temptation and a need of his own that Jud is helpless to resist.

To end a decade of loneliness, Jud will have to give in to the sultry seduction of a stranger… and betray the spirit of the man who should have been the love of his life.

Jud made a promise to his lover that he would never take another man to his bed or into is heart. That is a promise he has held onto even though Derek was killed years ago. Every year on Christmas day Derek's spirit comes to Jud for a night of passion, but this year is different.

Ty has been dealing with an unruly ghost in his apartment from the day he moved in. But things have gotten worse. Now every time he touches an object in the apartment he is stricken with a near orgasmic burst of energy.

Ty turns to Jud to find the answers to this odd dilemma and they soon find that there is more here than meets the eye.

Hunter Raines has created an interesting and unique story in Silver Bells. The characters are well developed and though the story is only 82 pages long the storyline is fully developed and very creative. I felt for Jud’s problems and his desire to hold on to his love even after death and the added twist of Ty and his ghost were great.

Brenna Lyons once again captures your heart and your attention in this fantastic story.

Bride ball is actually three interwoven stories that revolve around the same family.

Cinder: This is the story of Amber and Edward. Edward is crown prince and has been given an ultimatum by his father Benjamin that he is find a queen within one year. Edward agrees to this but he has to find her on his own terms. A series of bride balls are arranged. One of which is held at a manor close to Ambers family estate. At the ball Amber sneaks in and meets Edward and the adventure ensues. Edward has fallen in love with his mysterious Cinder and now must find her to make her his bride.

Should Have Beens: This is the story of rediscovering love and being yourself. Benjamin, Edwards father from the first part of the book, and Alana have been married for years. Alana is the perfect queen but the passion has wained from their marriage. Edward makes a suggestion to Benjamin that could change their marriage forever and bring back the woman he fell in love with if only he will follow the advice.

Stepsister: This is the story of Amber’s, from the first story, stepsisters, Kambry and Marquita and their unorthodox arrangement with Edwards cousin Darren. After the bride ball Darren took both sisters as lovers and contracted that the first to produce an heir would become his wife. The story evolves as Darren falls in love with one of the sisters and must find a way to get out of the contract with the other sister to marry his love.

These three stories are fantastically written. As you read you fall into the story and cannot help but keep turning the pages until the very end. The characters are well developed and engaging while you root for the good guy, boo the bad guys and have tears of happiness in your eyes by the end of this great story.

I must admit that I enjoyed Last Rites but the fact that I feel the need to caution others of the possibly sensitive nature of the relationship between what is supposed to be a priest and his parishioner concerned me. I am not a prude but it did take me a minute to overcome a bit of natural reticence over such a relationship, finally remembering that Last Rites is fiction, not fact, and anything is allowed when an author is exercising his/her literary license. In the case of this novel Mr. D'Artagnan takes a large and slightly imaginary step into an erotic wonderland, doing a thorough job of exploring his subject matter. Using the pretext of a stakeout is a stroke of genius, having it take place in the church and combining it with the elements D/s is unexpected, unusual, and in this case very successful.

The interactions between Mark and Faith are as far from priest and penitent as one could expect or imagine, even in your most vivid dreams, all that are missing are whips and chains. One of the fascinating and believable aspects of the story is that while the sex is plentiful it is not constant or the dominant force to the book - there is actually a very plausible plot. In addition, these characters sometimes share tender moments which occasionally allow us glimpses of their relationship. Last Rites is a well-written novel, with several layers, all designed to garner the reader's interest and keep us entertained until its climactic and exciting ending.

Fortunately, Ms. Jan's writing ability extends to Amanda too: her personality is definitely on the fun and friendly side. Are Amanda and Donavan the ideal couple? Based on the mishaps that seem designed to keep them apart, maybe not, or maybe they just need to figure things out for themselves. They certainly seem to have a lot of chemistry together. Rescuing Amanda is a cute and funny book, with great dialogue and irrepressible characters and entertaining scenes. Why would a massage session in a Fiji holiday resort make Tanya the Ice Queen so sex-starved that she would actually consider paying for sex?

It can't be her project of researching Internet dating sites! Those losers wouldn't be able to turn on a woman even if she came complete with an ON switch.

It can't be the delicious island cocktails of tropical fruit, cream and vodka... even if their names (like Sex On The Beach and Hot Screaming Orgasm) make you blush when you order them.

What is making Tanya lose her focus? Could it be the tight black jeans on the tight black arse of Randy Andy, the alleged con artist?

The most memorable aspects of Fiji on Fire, Fiji on Ice are the drink recipes before each chapter: all unusual, beach or sexually-themed in some way, plus playful and fun. These are a nice touch, and make what would be an otherwise slightly pedestrian novel, more than merely average. Other than the cocktails, this book is sometimes a little short on plot and substantive dialogue.

The main characters are interesting, and actually more multi-dimensional than the plot can handle which is somewhat unexpected and rather nice. It is a struggle to imagine Tanya and Andy, with their dual personalities, speaking the dialogue given at times however, that dialogue manages to match as much as it misses their personalities. The premise for the story is a really good one and has its fun and entertaining moments, which keeps this book from falling short of its mark.

Beyond her physical charms, Lady Blackburn has wit and intelligence. He’ll have to stay one step ahead of the seductive widow to keep from falling under her spell.

Lady Juliette Blackburn knows what she wants and she wants Captain Cruise. A wealthy widow in her own right, she decides to take her love life into her own hands. However, at every turn, the man of her dreams runs away from her. She’ll have to keep up a subtle chase to discreetly reel him in.

Despite their mutual attraction, something darker pulls them together, threatening both their lives. Together they’ll fight the villain and perhaps along the way, Juliette’s captain will surrender… to love.

One knows while reading the initial paragraph of Her Captain Surrenders, based on the description of Juliette and Nathaniel's first meeting at the ball that this book is going to be a joy to read. Ms. Knight adds something magical to that fateful dance: not just the costumes and scenery which are so lush and colorful, but the interested look in their first glance, obvious chemistry in their initial waltz, and their spicy conversation all inspire that HEA conclusion. Perhaps it is her lyrical way of writing dialogue for her characters, or maybe just the fascinating characters themselves.

I thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Knight's writing style, it is very vivid and descriptive, she is detailed in outlining her backgrounds, the scenery colorful, even the locations seem almost alive. And while she does pay such detail to the background pieces of her story, the plot does not suffer, it is just as intricate without being complex. It is difficult to find an entertaining historical book, luckily Her Captain Surrenders is one less book to look for, and one book to add to the list of those to read.

Suddenly she is hearing voices and discovers the ring opens a portal allowing her ancestors to speak to her. A friendly local Sheriff and a mutt named Heidi bring laughter and love into her life. But then she crosses paths with a serial killer. Must Andrea die in order to follow her destiny?

Review:
As a reviewer, I usually get two types of books. The ones I like to read and then the ones I like to read and tell the world about. Following Destiny is most certainly the latter. Anyone who knows me knows just how much I love Rebecca Vickery's work. From the very first book I read of hers, Surviving With Love, I have become a die-hard follower of Ms. Vickery's. Let me tell you a little bit about Following Destiny before I tell you my thoughts on the book.

When Andrea Duncan inherits her grandmothers house along with a ring, the world as she knew it, no longer is normal. In a small town, gossip spreads fast and soon Andrea finds just about every single man, and some married, on her doorstep introducing themselves. None capture her attention until a certain sheriff stops by to introduce himself. Drop dead gorgeous, understanding and very protective, Mason is just what Andie needs right now. The physical attraction between the two is explosive. Trust me when I say that you won't want to put this book down.

I fell in love with Mason's character from the moment he hit Andie's doorstep. To ensure her safety, he finds a dog to stay with her and it's that dog who adds an extra sparkle to this book. Andie soon cannot imagine her life without Mason or Heidi. Mason's acceptance of the ring proves that he is not your ordinary hero. Willing to do anything to keep Andie safe, the ring plays an important role in their relationship. When I got to see what the killer thinking, I loved it. I added a different twist to the suspense and keeps you wondering who it might be. I am also a lover of epilogues and LOVED this one. I certainly hope Ms. Vickery decides to write another book in this series. If you are looking for ansuspense filled, touching paranormal read that doesn't go over the top, then Following Destiny is the book for you. Ms Vickery writes in a style the reader can relate to and about characters who are very real. Following Destiny is one of those books that you will be thinking about long after you've read it. To Ms Vickery I would like to say, "I'm begging you, please make this into a series or at the very least just one more book to follow this one." Following Destiny gets two thumbs up in my book. Hurry out and buy it, it's a must read.

When Dr Michelle Benoit abandoned her cardiac surgical residency five years ago, she swore she'd never again become emotionally involved with patient or fall in love with a man who was all charm and no heart. But now her research career depends on the cooperation of the lover she left behind -- the exciting surgeon who wants her back in the operating room…and his life.

Dr Kyle Richards never gives up where his patients or his career is concerned. Focused on medical challenges, he ignores the emotional side of life -- until he agrees to help with Michelle's research study. Working side by side with her reminds him how much he's missing. He's willing to rekindle their romance, but she wants more than a short-term affair. To keep her from walking away again, he'll have to admit how much he cares. Can he buck the past and fight to keep her by his side? And what will it take to prove that he's always loved her?

I found this story tested my suspention of disbelief to the point of breaking. As a reader I am asked to believe that the heroine went through a full surgical recedency and at no point lost a patent. Medicine in general is a risky perfession. Scrubs, a show that can only loosely call itself a medical show and once had an episode done as a musical (complete with a song about poop), dealt with this reality. Not all pacents can be saved, either from from mortality or from themselves. The idea that she went through an entire surgical recedency without having to deal with death, is more than remarkable.

The romance in this story is fairly lacking. Guys-don't-get-it romance has long since become cliche. But in this case I think it is the girl that fails to "get it." Love isn't always about those three little words. It isn't about where you have sex, or some sort of symbolism with a bed. But when a guy goes out of his way to plan special evenings, or drive you to a special resturant in wine country, and tries to mend relationships he has long since buried -- that's love. Some guys just don't use the words, and that is okay. There are just very few things more annoying than a women who tries to change a guy to fit her vision. This all adds up to a heroine that is hard to relate to, as she tries to build a relationship based on her own skewed vision of what love is.

Overall this story is overly long winded, the heroine is hard to relate to, and the relationship confusing.

The Omega have always been the pansies of the paranormal. Now Chicago’s top werewolf pack has issued them a life or death challenge. Their only option: hire a vampire warrior to teach them the moves.

Daedalus has been a powerful vampire for ages. Intrigued by the chance to train the geeks of the underworld, he wasn’t bargaining on losing his heart to a human. Can he make the Omegas a success, fit into Sugar’s quiet life, and avoid being ripped to shreds in the process?

This feels like half a story. It opens with a brief introduction to the situation, and follows with speratic scene that largely take place between sheets. There is no character development, no time with the characters considering their choices; all these things happen behind the scenes and spoken of only in past tense. this makes the story rather predictable because the readers is never given the chance to wonder what the characters will do.

The sex isn't bad, but is a bit too frequent. Sex should add to the story, not over shadow it.

Overall, it is not a bad story, there just needs to be more of it.

He knows it will reveal a fiercely guarded secret that could destroy the lives of all four Janssens. Now he'll stop at nothing to ensure that doesn't happen -- even if it means using love as a weapon.

Review:
I have to say, Tell All was a spectacular read. The sizzling physical attraction between Kat and Luke found me catching my breath and thinking "whew, is it hot in here?". The sweet things that Luke did for Kat really tugged at my heartstrings and I fell in love with his character even more if that was even possible. Why can't real life men be just like Luke? His romantic notions went above and beyond the average love story. Loyalty to his family is a trait that I love in my heroes and Luke did not disappoint. The fact that Kat had personal objections against writing a Tell All book about the Janssens made her character very real to me. Appearances can be deceiving and when you read the moment Kat finds out who Luke really is .... well, trust me it will blow your mind. Tell All was a fast paced book that I breezed right through. The compelling, well crafted plot line had characters that were engaging, sexy and at times quirky. I laughed, cried and at times thought "oh my!" Tell all was a very fun read and I consider it an instant pick me. This is the first book I have ever read by Nell Carson and I look forward to reading many more. She is blessed to be one of those types of writers that just "get" what the reader wants. Any book by Nell Carson is an automatic add to my to be read list from here on out. There was an instant attraction between Miranda and Brady that they both wanted to deny at first because both of them had been deeply hurt by past relationships. My heart ached for Brady when I saw how raw and blinding his pain was at the loss of his wife Celia and I loved that both Miranda and Brady had strong ties to God relying on Him heavily to get through their problems. The part that really got me was the humor and easy rapport Brady and Miranda had with each other. This was a book that I loved from the moment I started reading. Ms. Brooks has written a touching love story that includes a lesson that I believe all of us on some level need to learn. I can feel confident in knowing that my teen daughter can read this book as it is a book that shows clean, sweet romance in it's finest form. What could be better than waking up next to a hot guy? Waking up sandwiched between two of them.

Quinn Preston, a financial analyst, is not happy when her friends dare her to pick up a handsome stranger at a wedding reception. What better reason to give up men when her previous long-term relationship had not only been lackluster in the bedroom but he had cheated?

Logan Reed, a successful business owner, can’t believe that he’s attracted to the woman in the ugly, Pepto-Bismol pink bridesmaid dress. And to boot, she’s more than tipsy. After turning down her invitation for a one-night stand, he finds her in the parking lot too impaired to drive. He rescues her and takes her home. His home.

The next morning Quinn’s conservative life turns on its ear when Logan introduces her to pleasures she never even considered before. And to make things more complicated, Logan already has a lover.

Tyson White, ex-pro football player, is completely in love with Logan. He has mixed emotions when Logan brings home Quinn. But the dares keep coming...

Publisher's Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Anal play/intercourse, BDSM theme & content, male/male sexual practices, ménage (m/m/f).

It was bad enough that Quinn was wearing such an atrocity against fashion but her friends have dared her to ask the gorgeous man to dance. Trying to drink her relationship failures away at her friends wedding reception Quinn has had more than her share and decides to take her friends up on that dare. Logan spies the beautiful Quinn at the bar and is instantly attracted to her but will not take advantage of a drunken woman. Fate has other plans and circumstances lead to Quinn waking up naked at Logan’s farm. After enjoying each other that morning Quinn is introduced to Logan’s lover, Tyson and her adventure begins from there. The two men dare her to come back next weekend for some more fun. Will she take them up on their offer? Can she accept what they want to give her?

This story was a wonderful read at times it pulls on your heartstrings while at others it lifts the reader up with the love that is shared between all the characters. Quinn is a strong woman who is tired of living a lie. She wants to be her own person, to be able to live and love the one she sees fit. As she struggles to understand her feelings for both Logan and Tyson she begins to loose her inhibitions and her heart. Logan and Tyson are a great pair of Alpha Males both understanding and willing to let the other lead when needed. Both men begin to fall in love with Quinn and are willing to let her into their world. The bond of love and trust that forms between the three is a great read. One only wishes that they had one person to share something like that with let alone two. Jeanne St. James writes a compelling story keeping the reader entertained from start to finish. With it’s great characters and hot scenes this book does not disappoint and should be on many a readers to be read lists.

After Kim had a gorgeous dress made for her by the old woman, she and her friends find out that the sexy enchanted dress was more than they had bargained for.

This amazing dress that Kim had decided to wear was affecting the sexual senses of a number of men to the point that they all desired and wanted her at all cost. So powerful was the allure of the KillDress that it even aroused the sordid killing senses of a serial killer.

I just couldn't get into this book. The plot was a good idea. Four good friends, a magical dress, and a serial killer has so much promise. It just never lived up to the promise of an intense thriller. The dialogue seemed forced and just too flat. I think it could have been better if it was longer. More pages to really develop the plot and storylines within, also it would have put more detail into the story. Filled it out more. The background of the dress and the magical fibers could've started the book out and then a forward to present day evil dressmaker. I think John Young has great stories within him and can't wait to see his future work.

Although the house is lovely, one room is locked. Her years in foster care have given her two ‘gifts’: a neurosis about locked doors and the ability to open them. After she gets into the room, she's appalled…and intrigued. Chains and manacles, whips and paddles, odd benches with straps…

When Alex returns home days early and finds MacKensie draped over the spanking bench in his locked dungeon, he’s furious. But her wariness arouses his protective nature and curiosity, so he strikes a deal to keep her close—she’ll act as his submissive in exchange for a place to stay and help finding a job.

He’d planned to use the veterinarian to deter an ex-girlfriend, not replace her, but with MacKensie’s compelling mixture of strength and vulnerability, the little sub slides right into his well-defended heart.

There is something very relatable about this story. No matter what your teen years held, there is something in them you regret. As teenagers we are all searching for acceptance, and some continue searching for it long after our teen years fada away. Where we find that acceptance, is not always where we expect. I found myself sympathizing with Mac, even when I could not empathize with her plight.

This story does the BDSM very, very well. Sometimes it is very hot, but there are times when it’s not. Far too often this form of kink is used without considering the full scope of what such a relationship entails, from both parties. I find it very refreshing to find a story that addresses an alternative lifestyle from all its angles, rather then simply focusing on one aspect.

Overall, this is an excellent book. I was excited to find out what happened next and wondering how the characters would handle it. And even though I knew this would have a happily-ever-after, there were many times that the story made me question that assumption. That in my mind is the mark of an excellent story.

She’s a woman determined to do things her way, on her own. But when a freak boating accident takes her sister Hannah’s life, Lacy finds herself not only back in her hometown of Lake George, New York, but in a custody battle for her eleven-year-old nephew, Andy. Just when things couldn’t get any worse, pesky State Trooper Frank Harmon starts showing up, tearing down all her defenses, making her want things she’s never wanted before. She’ll trust him with her nephew, but can she trust him with her heart?

New York State Trooper Frank Harmon is a man of honor and duty. He’s always done things by the book, believing the law always works in favor of those who uphold it. Until the day he took a domestic disturbance call at the DeGeorgio Trailer, and even though he knew something bad was about to happen, he had to walk away. Two days later, he pulled Hannah DeGeorgio’s body from the icy cold waters of Lake George, changing his life forever. He sets out to make sure Hannah's killer is brought to justice and in the process makes a home for a family he thought he never wanted.

I really liked this book. The author, Jenni Holbrrok, wrote an interesting and compelling story. This is book two in the New York State Trooper series. I did not read the first book but felt it completely unnecessary. Book two was complete and self explanatory as the author introduced the main characters and gave a glimpse of who they were before this story. I found myself pulled into the story and felt completely vested in the outcome. Truly, a good book to read. This is not the typical love story nor is it the typical mystery. The characters are well rounded and interesting and I found myself drawn in and interested in them as people, not just the characters within a book. I hope the author decides to write another in this series as I’d like to see where the characters end up.

He always knew that loving her would not be easy. He didn’t care. Jon thought he would do anything for Angelina, that if you loved someone, the choices were just that simple and giving everything to the lady who held your heart was just a part of it all.

But what she asks of him challenges more than his position as a member of the elite Squad Room, the one remaining Government Agency sworn to defend the people against the cruelties of the Criminal powers that reign in the post apocalyptic Urban Wars societies barren and dense metropolis.

No, the challenge was not loving her or the plan she laid before him to initiate The Prophesy, complete a legacy he had dreamed of and participate in the beginning of a turbulent end.

The challenge was her bargain for his soul.

I enjoyed reading Cold Wind in August: Urban Wars 2. The story was fairly simplistic and had good potential. I felt it was a good story over-all but had a few problems. For example: the sentence structure is odd in places, “The same applied to the torrential spray of emotions that coursed through every crevice of his body then and now.” The “then and now” just seems off, perhaps “now as it did then” would have felt more ‘right.’ It is the second time on the same page I had to re-read a sentence to make certain I had read it correctly due to the verbiage choice. Also, the characters were not quite together. The brother’s waffling on murdering his sister were not explained well, perhaps if the author had added more to the anguish he felt at the thought of taking his only sister’s life and a little suspense as to what was to come. There was an opportunity to play the siblings off of each other to build more tension. I liked the twist at the end as to who died and who lived. The author left the story in such a way she could have an Urban Wars 3.

I enjoyed this book for numerous reasons. The author fully developed the story and the characters and each was completely believable. The surprise at the main character’s heritage was not there but that was okay as there were other surprises in the story that kept my attention. I liked that she, the main character, was honorable and strong but without being masculine. Good job on her physical description as well as mannerisms. I felt she was similar to me in temperament so I could understand where she was going and how she wanted to get there. It was a little confusing at the marriage relations but once I caught on to the Egyptian theme it was much easier. I enjoyed that historical slant to the story. Nice overtones but the author did not beat me about the head and shoulders with the nuances that filled out the characters and story. I look forward to book two in the series.

Devlin isn't the man he purports to be and Markus, his sire, has another agenda for Ashling. On the run from the hunters, she finds herself in a new city and a die-hard attraction to Markus that she can't shake. Trying to blend in and forget about vampires, she's dragged back into their blood soaked world. And then the hunters find her once more.

Will Devlin come to her rescue? Will Markus reveal his true intentions? Or will the hunters get what they really came for?

This book is an exciting adventure about a girl who finds herself in over her depth in a world she never knew to be real. One of the best part of the story is the ability to identify with Ashling, she’s scared and confused, but willing to forge ahead despite these things. But while she is strong enough to stand on her own two feet, she also knows that she cannot always be her own savor. This makes her a very likeable and relatable character.

The romance in this story, however, fell flat. The main couple have been communicating for over a year on IM by the time the story begins. So all the flirting and getting to know each other parts of a typical romance have been skipped over. It leaves the whole relationship feeling very forced.

Overall, I recommend this book for those looking for an exciting story that isn’t too heavy on the romance.

Review:
Although romance isn’t my chosen genre, I’ve heard some very good things about Sandra’s writing and when the opportunity arrived to read one of her tales, quickly found myself immersed in her world. This is a quick read but I enjoyed it very much because the story, for such a short work, was multi-layered, jumping between the past and the present.

What I like about Sandra’s writing is that the prose is uncluttered and flows well. The dialogue between the characters, especially, comes across as realistic, and it was easy for me to picture her characters interacting, often eliciting a smile on my part, so that I often forgot I was reading.
At times I found Amelia’s stubborn refusal to acknowledge her feelings for her husband a bit forced, but I could overlook this. Sandra offers her readers a perfect blend of well-presented back-story that never bogs down the pace and her descriptive elements are just enough to paint a vivid picture of setting and characters, without flowering into needless exposition.

If I’m in the mood for a paranormal romance with a feel-good ending, I’d happily read another of her tales at the drop of the hat because Sandra is a masterful story teller in her chosen genre.

In twelfth century France, King Henry II of England has just finished quashing a rebellion by his power-hungry sons and now seeks to tame the lawless barons who supported them in this corner of his "Angevin empire." To this end, the king has sent the Earl of Gunthar as his royal representative to ensure that Prince Richard and his former cohorts faithfully adhere to the terms of the peace treaty.

Far from being welcomed with open arms, Gunthar no sooner steps foot in the county of Poitou than he is greeted by a series of assassination attempts. All appear to be linked to the former rebellious prince through the agents of the family and friends of young Heléne de Laurant. A clever, intrepid young woman, she realizes that the only way to prove her loved ones’ innocence is by exposing the true assassin. Heléne races against time—and dark secrets of the past—to unmask the killer before the kingdom plunges back into war.

Fierce determination gives way to mutual attraction as Heléne and Gunthar spar over the identity of the traitor. But their blinding magnetism almost causes them to overlook an even deadlier threat from an entirely unexpected direction.

Review:
Loyalty's Web took me on a journey into the twelfth century that I will not soon forget. A tale of intrigue, manipulation, lust and conflict, this book was exquisitely written and showed how love can defy any evil that comes against it.

Helene and Gunther were two characters that I fell in love with immediately. The tension between the two and their decision to fight it took my breath away and had me gasping at the most inopportune moments. People around me were starting to wonder if I was ok. (Yes, people, I am alright, but Helene is not so will you please let me finish and see how this turns out?) When I first was introduced to Clothilde's character, her sister, I thought "Great, another wimpy woman in history" but oh, that couldn't have been further from the truth. Once I got to know her and understand the complexity of her relationships, I found her to be pleasant and often misunderstood. Clothilde was a character with many layers. All she wanted was the love of her life, was that so much to ask? Well, apparently yes it was according to her mother whom I detested from the beginning.

I have never been one to be into historicals although I have read some that I did fall in love with. Loyalty's Web has gone above and beyond what I have expected from historicals. It never once lacked action and mystery. I was pleased to find that I learned from this book as well as was entertained by it. The plot kept me guessing until the very end. I promise, you won't be able to figure out who was behind everything until the very end. It's just that good! The cover of this book was also something that I loved. During the book, there is a description of a dress that Gunthar bought for Helene. Not knowing how they dressed at that time, turning to the cover helped me to visualize it. I don't know how many times I turned to the cover to look at Helene, she became a real person to me.

I would like to congratulate Ms. DiPastena for a job well done. Elegant descriptions, a juicy plot line and some "hold your breath" action scenes made this my favorite historical to date. The one thing I loved about it, my teenage daughter is able to read it and I don't have to worry about what she's reading. This book is truly deserving of the You Gotta Read rating that I am giving it. Pick up Loyalty's Web, you will be so happy that you did! It is a book to be read several times over.
