They are here. They ride. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

His name is Ares, and the fate of mankind rests on his powerful shoulders. If he falls to the forces of evil, the world falls too. As one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, he is far stronger than any mortal, but even he cannot fight his destiny forever. Not when his own brother plots against him.

Yet there is one last hope. Gifted in a way other humans can't-or won't-understand, Cara Thornhart is the key to both this Horseman's safety and his doom. But involving Cara will prove treacherous, even beyond the maddening, dangerous desire that seizes them the moment they meet. For staving off eternal darkness could have a staggering cost: Cara's life.

Ares is one of the mythical 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse. If his cursed seal is broken, he will evolve into War, an intrinsically evil being, who along with his siblings will usher in the end of the world. Cara, is a human, who gets dragged into this battle between good and evil, and must depend on Ares protection to make sure she survives. One of Ares brothers, Reseph/Pestilence, has already made the transition to pure evil. He is determined to see the rest of the horseman fall as well.

Even though this is the first book in a new series for Larissa, she still incorporates characters from her Demonica series. I love this because it makes everything welcome and familiar. Cara at first is timid, and TOTALLY against violence for any reason. Bleh! Rest assured our girl grows a nice pair and becomes a heroine to be proud of. Ares, while more detached and stoic than his siblings, has no problem getting his freak on with Cara. Even though there is very little actual sex in the first half of the book, it is still smoldering hot. The daydreams, and “everything but” scenes are registering off the Richter scale. There is also the traumatic backstory element. It’s not all blood, fun, and hot sex. There are some incredibly emotional moments in this book. Have some tissues handy.

The detail that the author goes into in Eternal Rider is what separates Larissa Ione from the pack. Her secondary characters and developing stories are enslaving. Her dark, dry sense of humor will have you laughing out loud. There is always tension of the sexual kind buried in every page of her books, and she can do more with a dry hump than anyone on the scene today. When Ares and Cara finally get to the actual good stuff, the reader is so ready; they might need a cigarette afterwards. Larissa also incorporates her love for the bizarre, like a friendly hellhound pup, or a loving battle stallion. No way would I even think of missing one of this series. All installments are automatically must read.
