Partners in more than stopping crime…
Brett Hunter had enough of his cousin’s detective agency and went into the police academy. Now he’s been partnered with Sam Taylor, a sexy blonde with cop’s eyes and enough sass to keep the headstrong Hunter in line.
When they butt heads with a serial killer, will Brett be strong enough to keep Sam safe? Will their growing love be enough to see them through the problems of love in the workplace? Will they find the killer and foil his foul schemes?

Brett Hunter’s dream had always been to be a cop. When he quit his lucrative job managing a branch of his cousin Dillon’s very successful private investigations firm, the family was less than thrilled. With experience under his belt as a PI, he sailed through the academy at the top of his class, and now as a uniformed rookie, Brett’s ready to clean up his city. That is until he runs into a roadblock named Samantha Taylor. Detective Sam Taylor agreed to mentor the probie as a favor to her captain, but that doesn’t mean she’s got to take him seriously. She’s got a killer to catch, and babysitting Brett is not getting it done.

I like very strong heroines, family series, and romantic suspense. Sooooo, I should have loved this book. There is a difference in being strong, confident and forceful, and in being just nasty and rude. Maybe my southern roots are showing but, I don’t bite somebody’s head off until they give me a reason, that just show’s a lack of good breeding. I did enjoy the family interactions, but I don’t believe there has ever been a more cursed family than these poor Hunter’s. Every parent, sibling, aunt, uncle and cousin, has either been kidnapped, beaten, raped, murdered, or a combination thereof. I believe a class in birth control and maybe a good shaman might be in order here. I really didn’t have any problems with Brett, he was a good hero, extremely tolerant, and had the patience of Job. Some of the reactions and motivations escaped me in this book.

I don’t want to go into specifics because this is from a continuing series and could possibly be a spoiler. Suffice it to say that very few of the women in this book behaved as I would have anticipated. If you are a follower of this series, then by all means continue to do so. I will give Ms. Stone kudos for writing some really, sexy love scenes. She has a very nice flair for that.
