The vampire waits for her because he has no choice. Her name is Maribel but what he wants from her should never be mentioned by name - like her blood, her sex, her death.

When hunger and loneliness sent Jared stumbling through his home town one night, he found himself face to face with the woman who was once his destiny.

He longs to take her; change her, yet he knows that she will hate him for it. He has forever to make her forgive him, but is that long enough?

This is a lovely short story that I think could have made an even better novel or novella.

The premise is interesting, a young man turned into a vampire who is obsessed with his high school crush, enough to want her to join him in immortality. There is not a lot of background information, but it’s not really necessary to understand the kind of passion he feels for her.

The confusion and angst he experiences is well done, thankfully with a good amount of tact, so that it doesn’t become annoying. The sensuality is mixed in this angst, which creates some good moments. I wish the whole thing was a tad bit longer, to give the characters some finality. Perhaps in the future, we’ll see a novella made out of this story. it does deserve it.

  1. Thanks for this review Valentina! I'm glad you found some merit in the story. This is one of the best reviews I've had for Last Caress and I'm thrilled that you understood Jared so well.

You've picked up very well on the fact it feels like it should have been a novella - it almost was! Once I get the rights back I may take your advice and develop it further. Thanks again!
