Nothing on earth can make this vampire fall in love…
After 499 years of existence, Connor Buchanan has arrived at an inescapable conclusion: he is a cold-hearted SOB. He’s been watching his friends—those poor romantic fools—plummet off the cliff into love like a dazed herd of sheep. But not Connor. He knows that love leads to nothing by heartache.
She is an angel cast down from heaven for disobedience. Trapped in mortal form, she finds a protector in Connor, a Scottish vampire haunted by a dark past. Marielle hopes to heal his broken heart and earn her way back home, but suddenly she has these…feelings. This strange yet pleasant physical yearning—for a vampire! Is this the work of a demon luring her into hell, or has this angel found heavenly bliss?
Connor Buchanan carried a lot of guilt on his shoulders, and he had carried for almost 499 years. This was the time when legend says male vampires can fall prey to a mid-life crisis. Connor believed in this about as much as he believed in the power of confession, which was nada. He had started to cast an envious eye on his happily mated friends, though. As head of security for the vampire corporation Romatech, Connor is in South Dakota looking for clues to the whereabouts of Casimir, the leader of the Malcontents. He doesn’t find Casimir, but he does find Marielle, a cast out angel, who has been horribly wounded. Unfortunately for Connor, he doesn’t find out she’s a fallen angel of death until his bosses wife touches her and falls dead at his feet. Not an auspicious beginning.
Kerrelyn Sparks continues her wonderful series Love at Stake, with a bang. Connor, who loyal followers of the series will recognize, is one of the glorious Buchanan bunch. He’s a tad somber and sworn to be solitary because of his traumatic past. Despite the advances made by the vampire community as a whole, Connor feels his sins are to great for any type of forgiveness and has resigned himself to an afterlife in Hell. Marielle believes all things can be forgiven, but she is determined to return to the choir of angels. Reading their story had it’s moments, both hilariously romantic and heartbreakingly somber. It seems as an angel of death, Marielle doesn’t harm vampires because they are technically already dead. So, Connor can touch Marielle to his heart's content in theory. This story has all the trademark humor that Ms. Sparks normally packs into each of her books. All the gang from Romatech and MacKay S&I make appearances. Corky Courrant, the perky reporter from DVN (Digital Vampire Network) plays a major role in the story. There are also several HUGE plot developments that occur in this story, that will definitely impact the rest of the series. Vampire Mine is a fun, quick, sexy read that is absolutely perfect for warm summer days. Whether you’re a long time fan or just hopping on the band wagon, this is a book you’ll want to grab.
