When Tobias Richard Vandevelde wakes up in a hospital with no memory of the night before, his horrified mother tells him that he was found unconscious. At Featherdale Wildlife Park. In a dingo pen. He assumes that his two best friends are somehow responsible, until the mysterious Reuben turns up, claiming that Toby has a rare and dangerous “condition.” Next thing he knows, Toby finds himself involved with a strange bunch of sickly insomniacs who seem convinced that he needs their help. It’s not until he’s kidnapped and imprisoned that he starts to believe them—and to understand what being a paranormal monster really means.
Ok, so I have to admit that even before I read the blurb about this book that I knew I was going to have to read it. Thankfully that didn’t come back to bite me on the rump.
The Abused Werewolf Rescue Group is a very enjoyable story of a young man, Toby, who discovers, after waking up in the dingo pen at a local zoo, that he is a werewolf. Add to that the fact that someone wants to use him in underground “dog” fights, his mothers smothering personality, and the other strange people he encounters and it is amazing Toby does not go completely bonkers.
This story is filled with endearing characters and vividly described scenes. It also flows well and has no boring or dragging areas that bog down the reader. It also has an interesting take on werewolves and vampires that I found to be very enjoyable.
My favorite character in The Abused Werewolf Rescue Group is definitely Toby. He is a great kid, although confused about his situation when he wakes up in the dingo pen. He is strong and determined to figure things out and get away from the guys who want to fight him.
The Abused Werewolf Rescue Group is definitely one You Need To Read.
