Do you ever wonder if the best of life is in the past? Are you longing for more passion and purpose in the second half of your life? Take a deep breath and prepare for a great adventure as Dale Hanson Bourke resoundingly affirms that midlife is a time for reflection but also a time for action. In Embracing Your Second Calling, she challenges women to respond to God's call specifically for this season of life and offers practical ideas for finding new meaning.
Review:
Although this book is geared toward middle-aged women, I felt as though I could relate to this book. I had children at a young age and now they are all but moved on with their lives. This moment in time is about me and what I can do to better myself and the lives of those around me. One of my favorite books of the Bible is Ruth, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that Ruth was used as an example throughout this book.
In each chapter you will find many tools to make you think. There are questions that make you think and activities to physically or mentally work toward. Each Chapter also includes quotes and personal stories. If you are looking for a Christ based self help book, this is the book for you. Yes, it is geared toward middle aged women but I believe women of any age will benefit from reading it. After all, isn't the main goal getting closer to God? This is definitely a book to set you on your way!

Natalie Jameson has a handsome husband, three wonderful children, and one very big secret. She's managed to keep it under wraps for over twenty years, but recent events lead her to decide she has no choice but to reveal the terrible truth.
Alex Jameson has had one goal in life since the minute he met Natalie on their college campus. Do whatever it takes to make this woman happy. When circumstances threaten to unravel the web of secrets and lies they've built around themselves, will their love be strong enough to survive?
Review:
Natalie and Alex are the couple everyone strives to be. They adore each other and their children. Everything is perfect in their lives until one day when everything is changed. It makes me wonder how I would have reacted. The way that Natalie felt about having children made me laugh, I've been her. Poor Alex, I felt for him and had to laugh each time Natalie said "Honey, I want to have another baby." Through their fights, laughs, and struggles with their own feelings, I found Natalie and Alex to be a perfectly imperfect couple. The daughter Gillian had me balling my fists in frustration from time to time and simply because I have daughters that would react as she did. I wish I could say more about this book but it would give away the story, so on that front, I'm zipping the lip.
Seldom does a short book deserve the highest rating from me, but Secrets and Lies moved me more than I expected. Since it is a short read, the excitement is in finding out what actually happened twenty years ago. I must say that this was a very touching story that at times made me want to cry. Yes, this is a very heavy topic but Ms. Hill has done an outstanding job of weaving her way through the story in a manner that does not bring the reader down. The characters throughout the story were so realistic and the topic is something that I am sure many people have faced in real life. Ms. Hill nailed the relationship between a husband and a wife. Yes, they fight but how they deal with their arguments is so like a normal couple that I couldn't help but to draw from my past experiences. Relatable, memorable characters along with an amazing plot line make Secrets and Lies a story that you simply cannot miss.

After she broke her contract with the Blood Moon Corporation, Sarah Vargas knew that it was only a matter of time before they came for her. What she didn't know is what lengths they would go to make sure that she had no where to run. Everyone Sarah has every relied on is in danger during a time when friends become enemies, and Sarah quickly realizes that the Blood Moon Corporation will never give up until she is dead. The Blood Moon Corporation is coming, and even Sarah doesn't think she can make it out alive.
Review:
In Fade to Black,Sarah Vargas found the werewolf who turned her, destroyed him only to realize she loved the man. Thanks to the help of born vampire Damian, Jared was spared but had to return to the corporation. In book two Malevolent Dead, she struggled with the separation from Jared and her growing attraction to Damian. Now in Blood Moon we see her grief. Jared has vanished from the BMC's data base which can only mean one thing, Jared is dead. Her wolf clan is under attack. The BMC is after her and willing to take out every one who stands in their way. Malevolent Dead is her only sanctuary, but Sarah's never been one to cower and hide. She's taking the battle to them.
Blood Moon is a fast paced read, filled with suspense, action and heat. Damian is ever protective of Sarah, yet willing to stand aside while she grieves over her lost Jared (who just might not be so lost after all). Ms. Kuehl delivers one surprise after another and leaves us wondering if this is really the end of Sarah Vargas. I sure hope not. These characters feel like family. You gotta read this one, but pick up the other two books first.

Heaven doesn’t want him. Hell is afraid of him. She can see right through him…
The Kavanaugh Foundation, Book 2
If the abrupt appearance of Will Vassago on her couch is any indication, knowledge of Anjali’s rare ability to see past demons’ disguising glamours has spread far beyond the Foundation. One thing that hasn’t changed since she accidentally touched him two years ago—his unnerving affect on her hormones.
Officially, Vassago needs Anjali’s help to find an escaped Skinwalker demon. He’s also got some not-so-official plans for their down time, but if her sensitive gift reveals who he really is—a fallen angel—any chance to fan the embers of desire between them will be lost.
Anjali tries to get their assignment over with before she loses control entirely. With every encounter, the unquenchable fire in her body burns hotter. And Vassago is startled to realize when he almost loses her to the rifts of Hell he has already lost his heart.
Then they discover the Skinwalker is only the tip of the iceberg. If they can’t get a lid on the situation, Manhattan will suffer a fate worse than Sodom and Gomorrah, and not even Vassago’s celestial sword will protect Anjali from the Angel of Death.
Review:
Anjali is special, only she can see and catch demons. Now someone wants her help and his name is Will. Only she can track the demons for him but can the two keep their feelings out of it all?
I really enjoyed Will, he is a powerful being and seeing him begin to have feelings for Anjali was a nice read. Anjali is just as strong and she is a great woman for Will. The two make a wonderful couple. The heat between the two begins right from the start and continues into something much more as the book goes on. As they search for the escaped demon they come upon many surprises that must be dealt with. I enjoyed the twists and turns in this story. They made for an interesting read, keeping me glued to my seat and turning the pages to see what would come next. As we watch the romance bloom between Anjali and Will we also get an entertaining story. I have to say that I adored the parts where Will’s teases Anjali about her quirks.
The author does a wonderful job of painting this world and pulling the reader into it. This is a fast paced and well-written book that should not be missed. I hope that this series continues and we get to meet many more wonderful characters.

Drake Martin is a unique shape shifter. Instead of transforming into a ferocious animal, he morphs into an eight pound Yorkshire terrier. Six year old Kady Hartley rescued him from an animal shelter. As "Precious" he was her "bestest friend" for twelve years, leaving when she started college. Ten years later they cross paths.
He’s a PI; she’s FBI. Continuing to keep his abilities secret from her, he follows Kady as she pursues a case. Accompany them on an odyssey to New Orleans investigating human traffickers and watch the fur fly. To protect Kady, Drake remains in the shadows. For her sake he puts aside his loner life and accepts protection and assistance of the local shifter pack under its leader, the Sufi. The pack and Drake soon discover they have a common cause, leading to a bloody confrontation with the Russian human traffickers.
During the adventure, will Drake and Kady rekindle their loving friendship or will it become much more?
Review:
After reading the very last sentence on the very last page, my first reaction is WOW. I say this for a couple of reasons. First, I am not ordinarily a shifter reader and second, how in the world can a shifter who turns into a Yorkie be sexy? This is where the "wow" factor comes in. Never have I read a book that has thrown my preconceptions out the window as this book has. Very early in the book, the first shifter scene actually, it is evident how being able to turn into a cute little dog works to Drake's advantage. His reaction to what he turns into was priceless and made me laugh out loud. A very important part of the book is the beginning. Although the pacing does seem a little slow at first, this is where the foundation lies for the rest of the book. No worries though, when the book does pick up, it is a very fast paced action packed book.
Drake Martin and Kady Harley have a relationship like none I've ever read before. It was fascinating how Mike and Cynthia Arsuaga have developed these two characters in such a tender way. They are able to bond in a way a normal couple never can. The loyalty that Drake shows toward Kady touched my heart and made me just want to say awwwww. As the book develops, so does the relationship between these two exciting and funny characters. The heat level between Drake and Kady soars and I'm more than surprised that my book didn't spontaneously combust! I am a die hard romantic suspense reader who loves humor sprinkled throughout the pages of whatever it may be that I am reading. My Life as a Dog had me laughing out loud at moments and holding my breath at others. This is, hands down, a book that captured my attention and kept it there.
I would like to tell Mike and Cynthia Arsuaga BRAVO! It is not very often that I can say a book changed my opinion about an entire genre. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in paranormal romance. Please keep in mind that some scenes are very erotic and may offend those who aren't interested in erotic. Otherwise, I suggest you run out and buy this book. Read at your leisure because you don't want to miss one thing. I enjoyed my time spent reading My Life as a Dog and look forward to reading more from these authors.

Kye’s idea of fun doesn’t include toting Roxie’s three-month-old daughter to the zoo, but like the good little Protector he is, Kye travels to the land of exotic furballs with pup in tow...and then smacks himself for not heading to the zoo ages ago. There, dressed in drab brown and looking more gorgeous than any woman he’s ever seen, Kye knows he’s finally found his mate.
Being a zookeeper, Michaela is used to soothing savage beasts...not screaming babies. Feeling sorry for the hottie who’s looking more panicked by the second, she’s quick to offer her assistance in calming the little bundle of adorable he’s holding. Of course Kye doesn’t hesitate to show his appreciation by asking her out and giving her a kiss that sends her heart racing.
While Kye struggles to tell Michaela about his penchant for howling at the moon, he manages to toss her right into the middle of his secretive life as a Protector and all the fangs that it entails. The question is: Can Michaela tolerate any more fur in her life, or is she going to trample all over Kye’s heart?
Review:
When Kye takes Roxie’s baby to the zoo he never thought he would find his mate but that he does. Now he must not only win her heart but also explain to her just what he is. Will Michaela let him into her heart and let him stay or will it all be too much for her?
Those of you that are familiar with my reviews will know that this series and author are one of my favorites and will probably guess that I enjoyed this book. Well you would be right. Although this book is not as intense as the previous books in this series it is still a great read. Kye’s Heartis more of a fun and entertaining read. It is more focused on the relationship aspect of the main characters than any thing else. I loved Kye he is a wonderful man and when he puts Michaela’s high school nemesis in her place he won a place in my heart. Michaela is a good woman with a big heart and how could I not love that she is a zookeeper. The two make a great couple.
I enjoyed the trust and love that developed between them.
The bond Kye is forming with Nevaeh is a wonderful read as well. The scenes with her, Kye and Michaela were too cute. She is an adorable little baby and I hope that we get to see more of her. Having Nevaeh adds another dimension to an already interesting story and I cannot wait to see where the rest of this series is going to go.

Charity Miller has spent her whole life in an urban island surrounded by the wilds of Montana where she’s never ventured too far from her plans. But when she heads into the Big Snowy Mountains to square a land deal one chilly November, her normally-professional self fades away. Maybe it’s the mountain air or finally quitting her diet. Or maybe it’s “real-live-cowboy” Joshua Rollings and his many attractions that has her off balance.
Whatever it is, this Thanksgiving could give her a reason to be thankful for the rest of her life.
Review:
What do you get when you combine a tall cowboy with to die for good looks and one very independent real estate agent? Hotness that's what! I instantly fell in love with Charity's character. She was the city girl with a no nonsense attitude. Joshua was the type of character I love to read about. The tall brooding cowboy with a sentimental streak won me over the moment I was introduced to him. The pull between Joshua and Charity was intense with sparks flying between the two the entire story. If I set aside the fact that these two characters lit the pages on fire, one element that impressed me was the medical angle. I don't want to give away that part of the story but by addressing the medical issues surrounding Joshua's mother, another layer was subtly added to the story.
What a perfect way to get in the holiday spirit. With compelling characters and steamy love scenes, I found Charity to be a page turner. I have never read anything by Ms. Holly in the past and thoroughly enjoyed this quick read. I would have loved to see Charity in full novel length. If you are looking for a fun filled novella to read on your lunch break, I highly recommend buying this book. It will definitely put you in the Thanksgiving mood! This author has now become an automatic add to my "to be read" list.

When four female angels were created for the archangels Michael, Gabriel, Uriel and Azrael, a chaos spurned by jealousy erupted, and the archesses were secreted to Earth. The four favored archangels followed, prompting a search that has lasted millennia. But for Uriel, the former Archangel of vengeance, the search ends the moment he lays eyes on Eleanor Granger, his one true archess. Can he protect her from the danger lying in wait for her - and win her heart?
Review:
Millennia ago, four favored Archangels were shown the four brightest stars and told as a reward for their Service, they were being given mates, a female angel called an Archess. Unrest and jealousy caused the Archesses to be sent to Earth to be hidden. The four Archangels, Uriel, the Angel of Vengeance, Michael, the Warrior, Gabriel, the Messenger, and Azrael, the Angel of Death, all elected to follow and search for their mates. In modern day Texas, Uriel has just found his in the women’s restroom of a bookstore. Eleanor Granger had lived a very sheltered and secluded life because of her strange abilities. She knew the government would love to get their hands on her for testing and in fact had tried on several occasions. She was always ready to run at a moment’s notice. When Hollywood’s flavor of the moment showed up for a book signing, she was less than enthused, even if he was the most gorgeous man she’d ever seen.
Wow! This book literally knocked me for a loop. I was unfamiliar with Ms. Killough-Walden’s previous work, and I had not picked up a lot of buzz on this book. I was intrigued by the blurb, and thought I’d give it a try. Luck was with me on that call. Absolutely tremendous. From the prologue to the very last sentence of the epilogue, I was glued to this story. Only Uriel himself could have pried me away. (OK, any of the four could have pried me away, but it’s Uriel’s book) This is not your “jump on the PNR bandwagon” cookie cutter book. Oh no, my friends. You haven’t read a book quite like this before. This story took turns that nearly gave me whiplash. These guys are the absolute real deal, panty dropping, alpha heroes that you dream about, the kind that maybe you are lucky enough to find every decade. Still not a believer, I liked the heroine. I can tolerate maybe one out of every twenty-five I read about. I like about one out of every fifty. Ellie was outstanding, a bit naïve perhaps, but that was understandable. She was smart, tough, absolutely fearless, with enough snark to make me extremely happy, and Ellie with Uriel…..whew! Hot stuff, indeed.
If you don’t read but one book this year, you need to make sure this is the book. This series has so many surprises; you don’t want to miss a word. I haven’t even touched the tip of the ice burg with how impressed I am with this book, but that would require a book in itself. Judge for yourself and you’ll be thanking me for this recommendation.

Review – American Monsters By Sezin Koehler
Author: Sezin Koehler
Publisher: Ghostwood Books

Rating: You Could Read
Reviewed By: Janelle
Blurb:
An important work of post-modern feminist horror, American Monsters is a poignant, angry volume about predation, the corruption of the rave scene, and empowerment through trauma-related super-abilities.
The first section of American Monsters is The Succubi Sideshow. This is a series of darkly compelling vignettes introducing a wide range of characters. You’ll find no happy, well-balanced individuals in this disturbing gallery. These are the origins of the monstrous denizens of the book. There are good monsters, yes, but there are some very bad ones too.
In the second section, The Phantastic Carnival, the Monsters are brought together through the murderous designs of an ancient, soul-hungry goddess. What could be a better lure for a big haul of youthful life-force than a spectacular Halloween party in a peculiar hill-top mansion? This section is presented as a film script and, like the previous piece, is illustrated with gorgeous watercolour paintings from artist Rose Deniz.
Non-Fiction, the third and final section of American Monsters, is a collection of moving and insightful essays. This includes a series of authoritative feminist analyses of horror, ethnography and rave culture. The heart of this section however is The Night The Sky Opened Up, a heart-rending account of the night when the author’s best friend was executed in front of her by a crazed gang-member.
Packed with horror homages both oblique and obvious, American Monsters is a book for adventurous readers – ones who are not scared of non-traditional narratives, of evil smog-goddesses, or of women turning the tables.
Review:
To preface, I’d like to start this review with the Non-fiction section found at the end. Neither I, nor anyone I know, cannot properly understand what it is like to see someone murdered, certainly not someone close. Nor can I say how my perspective on life might be changed by such a traumatizing event. And I understand that this story is in its own way a form of therapy and a journey to healing.
That said, as a reviewer, I must judge a book on its own merits, not on sympathy for the author.
The essays found in the Non-fiction section are about feminism at its most extreme. It is the sort of bra-burning rhetoric that seeks not equal treatment for women, but to make women the dominate sex.
To quite the essay “We have met the Enemy and She is Woman ” directly: “Andrea Dworkin’s insightful Intercourse follows in this same vein of perceived cultural differences between men and women with regards to sexual intercourse. As a culmination of these few theories of the body, I would like to present Dworkin’s view that because of the unequal power relations between men and women, all sex that takes place in the society would be considered a rape of the woman...This book struck a particular chord with me... My experiences along with experiences of many other women, from raves and outside of them, are what make up most of American Monsters. As Dworkin writes “Sadism and death, under male supremacy, converge at the vagina: to open the woman up, go inside her, penis or knife. The poor little penis kills before it dies.”( p. 190). “Fucking,” as Dworkin puts it, erases the humanity of women, making them sexualized objects, readily available for exploitation. Men, the rapists, are considered individuals. Women, the violated and debased, remain voiceless and exist to be fucked.
“Dominance and submission are also made evident through theories of the gaze. Dworkin explains that subsequent to the demeaning “fuck,” the woman’s body is fetishized by the male gaze which further allows him to possess and rape her body.”
The idea that woman cannot and should not enjoy sex is rather pervasive in our society, and, in fact, is considered a sin in many cultures. I would say this is a harsh on the subject of intercourse and is, at the heart of it, anti-feminist. It's saying that women are not allowed to enjoy sex, that all men are rapists, and if you do enjoy it, then clearly you've just been stockholmed.
At one point in her essay, the author talks about the Aliens movie series and its rape symbolism. This is true, such symbolism is there, and was in fact completely intended and done by design. It was not done to degrade women, it was done because rape is terrifying and horrible and invoking it as a backdrop helps sets the mood for such a film. As a side note, most of the people “raped” in that film were actually men.
She goes on to call Ripley a “phallic mother” because she uses a big gun yet nurtures those around her. Sadly, the author, and the researcher she leans on, have missed the point. Ripley is, by far, one of the best developed female characters in cinema. The fact that she is a woman does not keep her from fighting, and the fact that she is a fighter does not keep her from showing a gentler nature. Male characters are allowed such dichotomy, yet there is a strange brand of feminism that gets absolutely furious when it is shown in females. Pigeonholing women like this isn’t feminism. The author isn’t a feminist, she’s a misandrist.
This all leads into the next point: Women as horror victims. The author is right that there is some measure of misogyny in this. However, that is not all that is behind it. Biologically speaking, women are the weaker sex. We are built to nurture babies, men are built to protect. Making the victims female invokes not only a female reader’s feeling of helplessness, but also a male reader’s distress at being unable to protect. The author fails to acknowledge that the most likely survivor of a horror story is a female – who survives by turning the tables on her attacker – and that promiscuous men are just as likely to be victims.
The essays also expounds on the rave scene. As a girl who has lived in small town Texas all my life, I cannot really speak on what a rave is like in L.A. I do know drugs are prevalent. Specifically, the author focuses on Ecstasy and how its ability to induce euphoria and feelings of intimacy make it a date rape drug. While this is true, she fails to acknowledge that men at these parties are also taking these drugs. This lowers their own inhibitions and makes them want to express these feelings in a physical way. It is still rape, but it is not the all instances predation the essay presents.
During the course of one story, a character refers to a government institute as “speaking boy.” I was utterly mystified by this, as was my beta reader. It was not until I was most of the way into the second essay that I found out what this meant. The author feels that the basic rules of grammar need not apply because they were developed by men. To quote her directly: “Both the format of the stories as well as the lack of capitalization are examples of my resisting this “boy’s” voice.”
The fact of the matter is, regardless of their origin, the rules of English grammar are well established and accepted without question. Changing them, especially for reasons not explained to the reader, makes the story hard to follow because the lack of flow is jarring. In the same thread, you cannot change the rules of a sport halfway through the game just because you don’t like them.
Now, moving on to the stories. As horror stories they largely fail. While the opening volley is horrifying, the stories that follow are all the same. Boy rapes and/or tortures girl, followed by a story where the girl somehow kills/emasculates a boy. When you turn the volume up to eleven and leave it there, any impact is lost as it all becomes white noise.
Another problem that there are absolutely no sympathetic characters in any of these stories. The men are only motivated by violence and sex, they are deranged and psychotic , a veritable army of Jason Voorhees. Without exception every man in this book is a rapist, who seeks only to use, abuse, and toss a woman away like so much used gum.
The women for their part show no logical response to what is happening to them. One character is murdered and raped in a gas station bathroom. Upon finding herself a ghost, she does not mourn the lose of her life, the death of her future, or the pain caused her family. Nor does she wonder why she has not passed into the afterlife. Instead she jumps instantly to murderous rage and sets out on a quest for revenge. In another, four girls murder four men who are attacking them; and with blood still dripping from their hands they give what amounts to a shrug and a “well, that happened” and go on as if it were perfectly normal.
The summary proudly announces that there are no “happy, well-balanced individuals” in these stories. That does not mean a character should not be sympathetic. Golem, of Lord of the Rings fame, is not a happy, well-balanced individual. He is, however, an interesting and sympathetic character with many layers of motivation. He is both shallow and depraved, yet heroic in his fight to overcome the darkness that ultimately consumes him. A character must be sympathetic for a reader to care about them.
I think the great irony of this book is that in the author’s great railing against misogyny, she has inadvertently created a story that is nothing more than torture porn. This is a sub-set of the horror genre aimed at an audience – the majority of whom are male – who enjoy and even find sexual gratification is the humiliation, dehumanization, and abuse of others – mainly females. The Hostel series would fall under this heading.
Overall, this one does not rank very high on my list. The stories are gory and without purpose, and the essays are ham-handed and pretentious. On the other hand, how often do you find a book that contains both torture porn and essays on feminism?

After a devastating loss, their lives are thrown into further turmoil when a mysterious stone at a museum hurtles them back to the Old West. Their supernatural experience only intensifies the chasm between them, and when James realizes where they are, in a moment of anger, he pronounces that they were never married.
They go their separate ways, unsure of what this new world holds in store. James settles into a job as bartender. Befriended by local rancher Daniel Miller, Susan soon develops feelings for him. She's torn between starting a new life in a new time and healing her marriage and returning to the twenty-first century.
Will the miraculous journey back in time help Susan and James reconcile, or has destiny set new roads for them to travel that lead them away from each other?
Review:
Little House on the Prairie, watch out, you have competition! Nelly has nothing on Caroline (from Twist of Fate) and Daniel is the new Charles. Let's start with James and Susan shall we? It's obvious these two are head over heels in love with each other but over time have forgotten the qualities that once took each other's breath away. The qualities that once endeared them to one another are now viewed as annoyances. The sensual tension between these two was electrifying. Abigail is the good daughter who wants the best for her father Daniel. Daniel, having lost his wife a couple of years earlier, had lost the spark in his life. That is, until he meets Susan. There are other quirky characters in the book but I have to say my favorite was Caroline. She was full of manipulation and games yet such a child, a fun character indeed.
On to the plot line. I love this particular story for several reasons. Not only is this not like the other books in the Damaged Heroes series because of the time travel aspect, it is also not your typical romance book. Normally, it's the beautiful young heroine and the devastatingly handsome hero. In Twist of Fate, it's about real people. People who have self-esteem issues, ego issues and control issues. It's about making a decision that will affect the future of many people, not just those involved. It makes you think about the paradox. If you do something in an era gone by, would it affect the future? Who will Susan pick, the man who is everything she could possibly want? Or will she choose the one man that she has always loved that may not love her back?
Twist of Fate is certainly a book that will stay with me for a long time. In fact, when I am driving and every song I hear reminds me of the book, I know that book is going to be a winner. I wish each book had a soundtrack to it, because I heard some perfect songs for it on the way home. It must be said that I have loved every one of the Damaged Heroes books and all for different reasons. Each book can be read as a stand alone book. The one constant is the talent with which Ms. James writes. In my opinion, a talented writer is one who can evoke almost every emotion you possess and still leave you wanting more. Ms. James is most certainly one of the top authors on my list to highly recommend to others. To Ms. James, I would like to say "Job well done and I can't wait to read more." To the potential buyer of this book, BUY IT! You will not be disappointed. If you love Twist of Fate, here is a list of the other books in the series. They are all books you just GOTTA read!

Throughout her life she had maintained an iron grip on her personal control, organized to the extreme in her work and home life, highly respected in her profession as a Personal Assistant, so used to controlling others to ensure success. But what she truly wanted deep down inside, was a man who could take her to that special place of freedom she had heard and read so much about, to experience true freedom within her mind.
She had signed up to a lifestyle website to learn more about what it was to attain this ‘sub-space’ she had heard about. Peppering her profile with photographs she felt were ‘artistic’, and writing a personal passage about who she was had attracted plenty of admirers, but no one she had particularly connected with. She wasn’t looking to find a soul mate, or even a playmate, just someone to discuss her thoughts and passions and desires with. It was out of the blue that a message had dropped into her inbox.
This intriguingly daring and fiery novella describes three encounters experienced by a young woman, who, whilst fascinated by BDSM throughout her life, had not had the courage or opportunity to experiment in the scene, until now...
Review:
In this book we meet Tess and follow her through some of her beginning adventures as she enters the world of D/s.Will her Master accept her? Is Tess brave enough and willing to give all of herself to this man? Only by taking that first step will Tess know.
Tess is our guide throughout this story. We come along for the ride as she narrates what she goes through during a few of her scenes with her Master. I will advise readers that this book contains strong sexual content. Tess is bound and used hard so beware that this book may not be for everyone. Tess is a strong woman who longs for something else and she begins to find it with a man she calls Master. This story is a hot read but I enjoy more of a give and take between the main characters before this level of trust comes in. It was a bit hard for me to immerse myself into the story. Tess quickly trusts this man that she meets on the Internet and follows his orders more quickly than I would have liked. I would have enjoyed some more character development as well. This quick read seemed more like a part of a book than an actual whole book. Although this book is not a favorite I did enjoy this authors writing style and will look for more by them to see if I can find a favorite.

Protect the geek, that’s the job she’s been hired for, but little did this shewolf expect to fall for a man of science.
As a werewolf who hires out as a bodyguard, Lexie is paid well to perform dangerous jobs. When she takes on the protection of a science geek for a vampire clan, she doesn’t expect her temporary girlfriend status to come with lots of pleasure. But a geeky human who pushes all her right buttons—and plays her body oh so right—isn’t reason enough for her to break the rules and fall in love.
Everything changes after an incident in the lab, but before she can decide if it’s safe to give him her heart, she has to help him survive. Warning: Experimenting with a geek at home may cause uncontrollable lust.
Review:
Lexie wasn’t thrilled with the idea of guarding a geeky scientist, but the money was too good to turn down. Thrown out of her wolf pack for being too Alpha, she was the quintessential lone wolf, and her work as a security expert fit her just fine. Except for jobs like this. She had to get close to the guy without out him suspecting that Lexie’s there to protect him, thus the old “fake girlfriend” routine. Anthony can’t believe his good fortune when the gorgeous Lexie seems interested in someone like him. It seems way too good to be true. Once Anthony learns his instincts were right, well, let’s just say that things get interesting.
A master of snark, humor and raunchy sex, Eve Langlais has released yet another gem to entertain her multitude of devoted fans. As one of those clamoring hordes, I am particularly enamored with her shifter books. They have that added element of spice that comes with animalistic, “no holds barred”, “pin me to the wall” sex. Although The Geek Job will warm your cockles, it is not from soft, tender touches or flowery, romantic dialogues. It is romance, but it’s the really sweaty kind. Lexie is a great heroine and mean as a snake. As a wolf shifter, she is very uninhibited and breaks down Anthony’s inhibitions as well. Anthony blossoms under Lexie’s tutelage, and by the end of the book, has become an Alpha in his own right. As with all of Eve’s books, there is a great story connecting the sexual encounters. I would read these without all the steaminess, but you don’t turn down a great gift. It is not unusual for me to pick up a new phrase or two from Eve's books, her turn of phrase borders on genius at times. This would be a great way to spend one of those long Autumn nights. It’s an absolute promise that you won’t be bored or chilly.

Darias, Supreme Chief of Nexar, is tired. When the offworlder crashes on his planet, he takes her as slave, hoping to gain some respite in her sleek, sexy body. Instead he finds himself confronted by a woman whose tongue is as sharp as his blade. Worse, her outrageous beliefs on the roles of females are spreading, causing unrest among both sexes and damaging his tenuous control over an already unsettled populace. It’s time to tame his fiery captive. Darias demands her complete obedience.
But Riana demands his surrender. An independent trader with her pick of handsome, accomplished lovers, Riana has the sector by the tail until her cargo ship is caught in a fierce ion storm and crashes on a planet filled with barbarians. Taken slave, she gets a crash course in living life without her most precious possession—her freedom. Used to getting herself out of tight situations, Riana won’t go down without a battle. The too-sexy warrior is about to have the tables turned him.
The battle of the sexes just took a twist.
Publisher’s Note: This title was previously published elsewhere but has been extensively revised for Ellora’s Cave
Review:
With the entire cosmos as her trading ground, Riana is an independent woman, wily, smart and fierce with men more than ready to fall at her feet. When an ion storm crash lands her on a planet of alpha males gone way way wrong, she finds the tables turned as the gorgeous ruler of Nexar takes her prisoner.
Women are relegated to the lesser species, submissive to their masters, some are able to achieve only slightly higher status as a mate of a warrior, but every infraction insists on punishment, sexual pleasure without release. When Riana's offworlder ideas cause a rebellion she challenges Darius to a battle of honor and claims his throne. The boys are about to learn a lesson in feminine wiles...the hard way.
Surrender's Mischief is blazing hot. Any type of play goes between these two characters, including some interesting space age toys, and there is a heavy BDSM theme. At first when Riana is taken prisoner, the scene was almost too much to handle and bothered me a bit. She was clearly not willing to go with Darius at first and he does force "punishment" on her, but she quickly consents to. Still, it danced a fine line between what is and isn't acceptable. But as I read, I began to understand why Ms. Scarborough wrote their first meeting as she did. I wouldn't have been able to understand Riana's growth as a person and the change of Nexar, not to mention Darius' attitude toward women without the emotions evoked by Riana and that first scene. Nothing terrified her, except having that independence taken away and still she rose above that and made her captor her slave.
Darius is already trying to change the ways of his planet gradually when he finds Riana. As she turns the tables on him, he takes the change good naturedly and with honor while still trying to thwart her plans. In the end I think both characters learned trust and caring that may have only come to them this way.
The writing flows beautifully, and the space and technological imagery is easily believable and vivid. Though versatile, having written historical and romantic suspense in the erotic genre, Ms. Scarborough is truly in her element with the sci-fi setting of her newest work. Surrender's Mischief is definitely a book you gotta read, just don't forget to bring a fan and lots of ice water.

As much as Allie Fairfax tries to deny her past, and the way her body responds to Grant, she soon finds herself having mind-blowing sex with the boss. Now she is becoming a known player in her field of work and worries that her boss thinks she is fast and easy. Instead of firing her Grant surprises Allie by asking to be her Master. Can Allie forget her past and let her heart rule or will she loose her chance at a happy ever after?
This book is a quick read. Allie must deal with her past and decide on her future. She is a smart woman who takes chances with her heart. We get to see a lot from Allie as she makes her mind up. This book is a hot read but I had a hard time connecting with Allie and Grant. I just couldn’t feel the spark between them. I did enjoy Pilar and the friendship that the two woman share. It was a nice touch to see their friendship and the interaction between the girls. She arrives at the rendezvous only to find her demon lover, Ash, there. She now has to make one of the biggest decisions of her life…follow her heart or fulfill her duty. For your best reading experience, the Dirty Little books should be read in the following order: Secret, Lie, Trip, Girl, Demons, Boys, Slayer.
Review:
According to Moss, this is the final installment of her Dirty Little series. While I didn’t read the others in the series, I had no trouble picking up the story where this one starts. Jay goes back to her roots here only to make an unpleasant discovery and her reaction to it did leave me scratching my head a bit. I would almost have wanted to see more of an emotional reaction from her.
But Moss does a good job with her world-building, however, and the tension between Jay and Ash is quite palpable—and Ash certainly knows how to treat a woman. Jay finds herself tangled in the affairs of deities, which can almost certainly be tricky to resolve. All this takes place in one of my favourite story settings: New Orleans, and Moss certainly lets me feel as though I’m in The Big Easy.
This story’s ending could have used a bit more polish; it feels rushed and a scene that possibly could have added extra tension to the tale gets a bit lost in the narrative summary. All this being said, I like the way the story resolves—Jay really has to decide between her heart and her head. Overall this is a fun, flirty read and there are some lovely character interactions happening.

Evie’s future finally looks as tidy as the Yorkshire house she shares with Ross, her serious boyfriend. Until she comes home and sneaks into his after-work shower—and discovers she’s just jumped a naked stranger with mysterious, deep-running ties to Ross’s past.
Fresh from a bartending stint in Japan, Kit plans to move into his newly inherited house as soon as it gets a roof. Meanwhile, his old friend Ross has offered him a spare room. How better entertain himself than by pushing Evie’s buttons…and her boundaries?
Risk isn’t Ross’s style—at least, not anymore—but then again, he was never able to say no to Kit. Memories of their wild adventures still spice his sexual fantasies. Fantasies that could cost him Evie’s love, if she knew.
Captured by Kit’s bad-boy charm, Evie finds her vision of domestic bliss rapidly fading in the growing intensity of Kit’s dark sexuality. Kit knows he’s playing fast and loose with Ross and Evie’s relationship, but he’s certain he can win them over and have what he’s always wanted. A three-way romance.
Even if his last attempt ended in a disaster that comes back to haunt them all…
Review:
Evie and Ross were your typical couple, they had just moved in together. He was the town veterinarian, she worked at the local B&B, both were well liked by their neighbors and co-workers, and the sex still had an element of newness. Thinking she would be surprising Ross in the shower, a naked Evie jumps in on a completely wet, naked and scrumptious stranger. It turns out Kit is Ross’s best mate from his childhood and Ross has agreed to let him stay until his place is refurbished. Confused, hurt, and afraid, Kit left without a word to anyone, six years ago. Now he’s back and he wants to pick up where things left off with Ross. Ross is deeply and completely in love with Evie, but he has never gotten over the feelings he had for Kip. Living in such close quarters, secrets are bound to be exposed….along with other things.
The book, Enticement, while filled with incredibly steamy sex, is also a story with an extremely relevant message. Accept yourself for who you are and you can’t outrun your problems. Evie was a decided introvert with a penchant for voyeurism and public sexuality. Ross had buried his feelings for Kit in a bid for an appearance of normalcy, and Kit runs away at the drop of a hat whenever things get the least bit intense. Of course, if they had all acted as they should have in the first place, there would have been a completely different story. Probably not half as interesting and a lot less fun to read. Ms. Ellis broached the innate problems of a permanent ménage beautifully. The questions of equality, jealousy and respecting personal boundaries all came into play. If not handled carefully and correctly any of these issues can and will destroy a budding relationship.
The setting of a tight knit, small town offers a view of crowd mentality and the damage of what petty, small minded, prejudice can bring about. This is a sexy, good, but sometimes somber read. It was sometimes jarring to go from an almost bleak moment to a rollicking three-way, but Ms. Ellis made it work. All in all this is a fine example of erotic romance and I highly recommend it.

They are called Feral Warriors—an elite band of immortals who can change shape at will. Sworn to rid the world of evil, consumed by sorcery and seduction, their wild natures are primed for release . . .
Shattered by recent nightmarish events, Hawke feels his bond with his animal spirit weakening—and once it breaks, he’s finished. The arrival of Faith sends his life spinning even further out of control, for although she delights him and enflames his deepest primal passions, she’s promised to Maxim, the newest Feral Warrior.
Faith is drawn to Hawke from the start, but Maxim holds her in his thrall and has secretly bent her to his malevolent will. Though gravely damaged, Hawke is the only one who can end Faith’s slavery and protect the Feral Warriors from Maxim’s evil designs. But first they both must embrace the wild . . . and surrender body and soul to a forbidden, all-consuming ecstasy.
Review :
After being rescued from the spirit trap, Hawke has lost control of the hawk that made him a Feral Warrior. His link with the hawk spirit that shared his body, and enabled him to shift form, is broken and getting weaker. If Hawke loses that link, he will die. Faith believes she is destined to be the mate of the newest Feral, Maxim. When Faith and Maxim arrive at Feral house she feels an attraction for Hawke she doesn’t feel for Maxim, but mate bonds can’t be denied. Faith calms Hawke’s bird, but with each day a new danger pushes Hawke closer to the final break with his animal and pushes Faith closer to Maxim.
Fangtastic!!! Ecstasy Untamed was the best book of the Feral Warriors series to date. I absolutely could not read it fast enough, until I neared the last few pages, and then I was sad it wasn’t longer. Hawke had always been the more laid back of the Ferals, the peacemaker, the one they came to for counsel. Now he’s very changed, and I liked the edge it gave him. He is a much darker character than before, which for me was not a bad thing. The reintroduction of the “Seventeen” back into the story was outstanding. It gave so much flavor and diversity to the book. I was totally surprised by this element of the story and Maxim’s storyline was brilliant. I was very disturbed by his replacement of the fox Feral because I was such a fan of the original, but Pamela Palmer handles that roadblock superbly, even for a diehard like myself. Faith’s character was a surprise as well. While she really didn’t fit the profile of the type of heroine I go nuts over, she won me over without to much difficulty. She was actually a really good fit for the more sedate Hawke.
One of the unique things I love about the Feral Warriors series, that even though each book focuses on a new Warrior, the story doesn’t end with their book. They continue to have major impacts on the continuing stories and their outcome. I don’t give spoilers but I will say that something happened in this book that I never expected to happen to one of the main characters of the series. Actually there were a couple of things that caught me off guard, which is great that I can still be surprised by a series I have been following for years. Ms. Palmer throws about some broad hints about what the future may hold for old and new Ferals alike. If we can take one thing away from the Ferals and the Therian people, it’s that they are a very sensual people. Hawke and Faith’s story exemplifies that in a compelling fashion. Their relationship runs the gamut, from achingly tender to grippingly animalistic. There are no valid reasons to miss out on this book. It is one of the best reads you’ll have all year.

As three strong sets of hands caress and undress her, Callie surrenders to desire, because sometimes you just gotta say...yes.
Review:
Since Callie spying on two of her roommates, Jack and Noah , having head banging sex with each other, all Callie can think of is sex with multiple men. Preferably her roommates, Jack, Noah and Lucas. She loves and desires all three, but she’s in love with Lucas and knows sex would just screw up her friendships with the guys. Things were just about prefect as they were. They would never go for that, especially Lucas. But a girl can dream.
This is a perfect little ménage a quatre story. The men are not the least bit feminine, and are perfectly secure in their masculinity. Jack, Noah, and Lucas are united in their devotion to Callie and to please her. Callie has fantasized about this a great deal, but she is very reluctant to rock the boat, especially with Lucas. This is a sexy, raunchy quickie with just a splash of romance to help lighten the mood. It seems that Laura Kaye can write in just about any genre she chooses, and do it exceedingly well. I was very familiar with Laura’s less steamy works, and was pleasantly surprised by this book. It takes almost no time to read and it seems to just smolder off the page. Looking for something to brighten up those long and chilly Autumn nights. This will certainly do the trick.

Review:
This story is unremarkable to the point of being almost painfully average. It reads more like a D&D fanfiction than an original work. The main character is a duel katana wielding, prince, mercenary, druid high priest, and he is just as Sue-ish as he sounds. The other characters are one note, off-the-shelf stock characters that contribute little to the overall story.
One of the biggest problems with this story is the omniscient narrator, who frequently pops into different characters’ heads so the reader knows exactly how everyone is feeling and what they are thinking, at any given moment. It easily ruins any twists the story might take. Furthermore, the narrator feels the need to give whole chapters of exposition from characters we never see again. Deep, motivated characters are good, so long as they don’t get in the way of the plot.
Overall, I give this one a resounding “meh.”

Review:
Michelle Hasker is obviously pretty in tune with the trends, and one of the biggest ones right now in the culinary world is cupcakes. Isn't it perfect that her latest endeavor, Cupcakes, features those same delicious little confections? Everyone loves them, everyone it seems except Carly's uptight “Controller” Samson. At least that is how it initially appears until the story really progresses and we began to see a whole different side to Samson, one that manages to sway our opinion of him quite a bit. Like Carly, I already found Samson (and his sidekicks) tall, dark, handsome and too irresistible for words, even without the aid of certain aphrodisiacs. Ms. Hasker has that way of making her “desserts” irresistible to everyone, especially her readers, and just as the story ventures close to too extreme she adds an ingredient to make it just right again. Who are we to resist?
There are a few additional “ingredients” added to the novella that make it truly delicious, but they only seem to add spice to the recipe rather than anything harmful. Just as the sweets are irresistible to the townspeople, we see exactly how spicy this little mixture is becoming page by page. Ms. Hasker has fun with her story, being playful with the food theme, all the while adding components to keep it interesting and tasty, keeping just short of force feeding us too much at one time. The addition of succubi as secondary characters rather than primary ones is masterful; the twins are just the right touch needed to add a little something extra to the love scenes – as if they needed anything extra. Happily, there is never any problem distinguishing the good from the bad, the sweet from the sour, and in the end good always triumphs, with Carly and Samson having their happily ever after with a twist.

Once again, Ms. Clare has given her readers another gripping page turner. Breaking Point continues the I-Team's string of excellent reads, and confirms Pamela Clare’s status as one of the reigning monarchs in the Romantic Suspense genre. The action is fast and graphic, and the story is compelling enough to make this a “one sitting” book. In addition to the trauma of being tortured and imprisoned by the Los Zetas, both characters are victims of PTSD from past traumas. Zach more so than Natalie, or at least Natalie has dealt with hers better. Zach has what I call “hero martyr syndrome”. Everything bad that happens is his fault, no matter the circumstance. Irritating, yes, but Natalie doesn’t tolerate it much. In fact she bust his chops on his way overdeveloped sense of responsibility. Luckily for the reader, Zach loses his ‘protect at all costs’ attitude in the bedroom and let’s his inner bad boy out to play. Natalie is terrific as the heroine of the story. At first, I was a tad put off by her incessant questioning of Zach’s every action, but then I reminded myself that she is a reporter and that’s what they do. By the end I really liked and admired her intelligence and chutzpah. She had a nice little streak of snark running through her as well. We also get to catch up with past characters in the I-Team series, which always makes me happy. I do like to keep in touch with my old friends. If you haven’t had the privilege of reading this series yet, (and why not?) don’t despair. This is a stand alone read, but I guarantee by the end you will need the rest of the series.

It's New York City, way way in the future and many things have changed — like the legalization of sex for hire and the popularity of the undead in the world's oldest profession. Conversely, the unreliability of males, immortal or human, remains a constant, or at least that's what Detective Tess Monterey has deduced after a particularly painful breakup with her partner and secret lover.
While investigating an apparent sex slaying, the trail leads to Blood Bytes — the city's only online vampire agency, and its most sought-after supernatural stud, Devante Matiero. The last person to see the victim alive, Matiero quickly rises to the top of Tess' most wanted list — in more ways than one.
Tess wades through a series of suspects and clues, along with her own distracting desires, desperately trying to close the case while holding onto her new-found stay-away-from-love conviction. But as she is destined to discover, things are not always as they appear. And not all good intentions pave the road to hell — some actually overlay the way to heaven.
Reader Advisory: Contains light bondage scenes.
Review:
While I’m a fan of Phelan’s writing, I’m conflicted on this novel. As always, her characterization, dialogue and interaction is lovely but the novel fails for me on two fronts: its ending, which feels tacked on, as well as the editing, which could have been sharper, as I picked up on a few gremlins which must have slipped past the proofing stages. She could happily have dropped the epilogue without harming the tale in the least.
All in all, there is a very good premise lurking in this novel but a lot of the tension that could have built into a fantastic climax is diffused by too many viewpoint characters and also shifts in point of view, often in mid-scene, which threw me out of the reading a bit. There are times when I felt less would have been more, when the narrative is interrupted with bursts of exposition which could have been avoided with more of a “show, don’t tell” approach.
All things considered though, what made this novel for me was the interaction between some of the characters, especially the autopsy scene, which elicited a few dark giggles on my part. What I enjoyed, however, was the Bladerunner-esque setting, which didn’t leave me feeling that the novel was set too far ahead into an alien future. Her milieu is well-realized and would make a stunning setting for future novels. All in all, things could have been tighter, but this is still a fun read.

When Molly Hayes' marriage fell apart, she ran home to Hayes Ranch to lick her wounds. What she really wants to lick is foreman Chance McDaniel, the star of all her erotic fantasies. But he had never given her the time of day. Why would he give her his nights?
Kink is a mild term for the kind of sex Chance McDaniel enjoys. But he's learned the hard way not all women can handle his darker desires. He aches to give Molly the ride of her life but fears she'll shy away from his wilder ways.
Will the past become a stumbling block or will both Molly and Chance, once wounded, climb back in the saddle?
Review:
After her marriage falls apart Molly comes home to her father’s ranch to regroup but once she is there all she can think about is Chance. Molly has loved him since she was a teenager yet life has taken them both on separate paths but now that has all changed. Both Chance and Molly are finally free to start a romance. Will molly take the plunge? Can she accept Chance and his sexual ways or will their happy ever after slip through their hands?
This was a sweet romance about finding lost love. Both Molly and Chance have longed for each other and for a love that they thought was denied them. I enjoyed watching the relationship between the two blossom. I loved that Molly was open to trying new things with Chance and never once lost trust in him. Chance is a good man that must learn to trust again and Molly may just be woman enough to help him. Together the two will kindle the spark between them and maybe even remember what love is. This book is not only a hot read but it also contains a sweet romance that finally comes to be.

Review:
I love a good twist ending, and boy does this story have one. I’m not even sure what to say because I’m afraid of giving it away. Suffice to say I was very surprised and utterly horrified. This book is a short but excellent read, and I highly recommended.
